Simplicity and Travel

I heard from a Sheikh some years ago that it's considered a lack of Faith (Emaan) to always want to travel as it promotes escapism. I think his comments were vague as travel is a natural element of human curiosity - many leading Muslim names in history travelled, be it for knowledge, spreading the faith, Wars etc.

But I agree with the Sheikh that the consumerism inspired travel industry can lead to poor Eman. Personally i never had a problem with this alx, i don't look at pictures of Santorini and gain a sudden urge to book a flight just to sit in an empty villa surrounded by an ocean, even in my most jaahil times. The World is a great place of discovery and history but the Hereafter contains that which no ear has ever heard of and no eye has ever seen!

Travelling is important imo. Learning about other cultures, meeting people, visiting historical sites, observing nature etc. You always learn something new and you become more humble.

Shit! But I like travelling. London gets boring quick.

I heard it in a khutbah and the Sheikh didn't explain it very deeply. I suspect it's another sensationalist statement rather than facts - there is a verse in the Qur'an that asks us to explore the land and see the signs of Allah everywhere.

The Sheikh was referring to the idolisation of holiday culture. I have seen the same parents and families go to Sharm el Sheikh (resort for Cadaan tourists in Egypt) over 10 times but never went on a pilgrimage :bell:

We also have to take in globalisation. In the olden days, travelling was severe hardship, it counted as a punishment for some crimes actually.

Most people travel to take pictures so other people think highly of them. Its an entirely vain and soulless activity.

The ones at fault are those who think highly of them :icon lol: like i'm suppose to be jealous you got sand in your hair and your location is a few hundred miles away?
