OPINION Should we change the Somali flag?

I’m pretty sure Somalia’s flag was made by a man from Mudug and no we shouldn’t change it. If you keep changing the flag it’ll lose its significance/value.

Nah it’s because it’s derived from a colonial flag and symbolises the darkest period of our history. This flag is seen by so many as a flag of death and destruction. Changing it would be a good thing

That’s their problem lol Siyad Barre doesn’t own the flag it existed way before him and has nothing to do with the Kacaan era.

All this agitation about our flag being inauthentic, or a mere "copy" of some obscure coat of arms, is based on incredibly circumstantial evidence. Does it share a motif with the previous coat of arms? Yes. Is this categorical proof that Mohammed Liban committed plagiarism? No. I am more inclined to believe the established history than any of this ill-motivated reasoning. The flag is simple in its construction, striking, and symbolizes our political aspiration for Greater Somalia. I hope it continues to be the ethnic flag of the Somali people. Even though the history of this flag is f*ucked up, I always liked this shade of blue rather than the one we have now
