AL is a dysfunctional org, so not sure why you some here hold it in high regard. Every country is pursuing their own national interest. Somali interest is served by having a stable and functioning state. Let us focus on that and stop chasing imaginary issues.

Eritrea is the only truly independent state in Africa.

No it's not, it's the personal possession of one arrogant man; strength is the guarantor of independence -- and an isolated, impoverished State (captured by one man) is not even remotely approximate to that.

Impoverished state? Every Eritrean has access to free education and free healthcare. Eritrea has achieved food self-sufficiency. They're being sanctioned because of the independent path they follow. May the Eritrean people continue this path.

I don't think you truly understand what you're talking about.

As others have said, Arab League has zero influence over us so whether we are part of it or not makes little to no difference, same with African union.

When we become powerful we can use these organisations as platform to exert our own influence over others, if I am not wrong Siad Barre aun had attempted this before so it isn't beyond the scope of our capability. Right now Arab League is owned by US through Saudi while African union is owned by EU and US through Ethiopia. The foolish charlatan Gadaffi got effed by both bodies.

I say we should, it's strange how Eritrea, a country that uses Arabic as a working language is a non-member state while Somalia is. If you go on google, forums or quora, some people ask why Pakistan isn't a member state, the answer is usually because they're not Arab, but Somalia is?

I don't see any benefit to it, the Gulf states have zero respect towards Somalia, we're more of a nuisance to them, other than handing out some aid (which just makes us look bad, double points for famine stereotype lol), it's a one-sided relationship that doesn't benefit Somalis, some allege these Gulf states don't want us to develop our ports and descreetly support Al-Shabab, who knows.

I have no doubt in my mind that Arabs across the world would celebrate if Somalia left the Arab League, if we're being honest, we're not exactly adding prestige to the League by continuing to be a member state.
No Arab would celebrate Somalia leaving the Arab league don’t flatter yourself… we are an invisible member nobody except us knows we are in it :mjlol: we don’t contribute at all economically or militarily. We are better off in it than out of it. Somalia is 4th world beggars cannot be choosers

Exactly this. We’re a nothing country, any international stage we’re involved in is a benefit.

Saudi Arabia is one of our biggest donors, mostly because we LARP as an Arabic country.

But regardless unlike Eritrea our cultural ties are strongest among our Arab brethren. We have nothing in common with our neighbours lol

Eritrea has barely developed in 20 years, there is a reason the Eritreans are all running away to Bahir Dar despite Eritrea being peaceful

I can’t believe that Somalias position in the Arab League is actually a debatable opinion.

Leaving the Arab League will probably be the most low IQ move from an African country that I’ve witnessed in ages.

I read it somewhere that similar to other international organisations, the Arab League doesn’t let a country in if existing members have an ongoing issue with them.

Djibouti has (or had) a long-standing territorial dispute and Somalia also didn’t want them in for whatever reason.

So they were told to make amends with both nations in order to join.
