Should Mehr be a thing in the west?

The purpose of mehr was to provide security to women in case their marriage goes wrong as women back home didn’t work and spent all their one at home thus they didn’t really have anything for themselves.

in the west, both partners are working, therefore women have a career to fall back in so is mehr really needed?
