As I understand it, no country recognizes Somaliland. Should foreigners recognize Somaliland? If yes, why? If no, why?
My roots are from the coastal northwest. Somaliland's push for independence should not be recognized.
Here is why:
1. Somalis need to preserve our identity. The more fragmented we are the easier it is to control us by the countries like Ethiopia and manipulate against our future plans.
2. The president of Somaliland, Muse Biixi, has blood on his hands and is not the guy to lead people from their hearts. Somaliland is basically a poverty police state that has a veneer of democracy. It does not hesitate to suppress violently its own regions, thus, perpetuating the oppression it complains about so much when referring to itself. It defeats their argument for independence and recognition.
3. Somalia is going through growing pains politically and slowly maturing. Even the warlords now understand the benefits of stable Somalia. There is a lot of back and forth in discussions about, the president of Somalia, Farmaajo and ongoing political meetings. It is a good practice and will benefit Somalis in the future.
Somalia needs more time and frankly a chance to fix itself before parting.
There is a whole bunch of Biixi's bots on this forum sowing discourse among Somalis. Just filter them out and try to get the actual picture.
At the end of the day, we are all Somalis no matter how much we diverge in our views.

I believe that Somalia should be separated into maybe 7 new countries just like the Arab states in the Middle East. Somalilanders have made their choice and Somalis everywhere have to respect that. We tried to live together in the same nation from July 1st 1960. We had high hopes but our...
