How many casualties (either side)
MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somali Special Forces (Danab) Monday took control of Al-Shabaab revenue headquarters, Toratorow in Lower Shabelle region and killed 10 militants.

Ismail Abdimaalik Maalin, the 16th Brigade Commander told the media that the forces launched an offensive mid-morning Monday pushing the militants from the area and inflicting casualties.

Among those killed was Al-Shabaab’s Lower Shabelle regional court judge Maalin Abuukar.

Toratorow has for years remained one of Al-Shabaab’s strongholds and served as the group’s revenue headquarters.

Sidoo kale wararka ayaa intaasi ki daraya in dagaalyahannada oo aad u hubeysan ay isku ballaariyeen deegaanka, islamarkaana ay ka sameysteen fariisimo cusub.

Xaaladda ayaa haatan kacsan, waxaana gobolka Sh/ Hoose ee koonfur Galbeed Soomaaliya laga dareemaya dhaq dhaqaaqyo u dhexeeya labada dhinac.

Tooratoorow ayaa ah deegaan istaraatiiji ah oo qiyaastii 75 km u jira degmada Awdheegle, waxaana Al-Shabaab ugu yaallay maxkamado.

They did arrest the judicial members of alshabaab in town. I am thinking there is a strategy behind the operation.

There is no proof all is mere lies.

AS vacated Torrow Torrow then the SNA came and had photo moments and left.

No one has been arrested or they would have been arraigned in court.

DIR POWER
Mogadishu is far more important source of revenue for Al Shabaab. Insteads of steamrolling into remote villages and pulling back, priority should be placed on tightening security measures new ID electronic system monitoring in-out roads eliminating sleeper cells surprise raids on potential hides out flashing Al Shabaab associate members of security force etc...

It is going to be tough, allot of people will die, take years of trial and error but will finally uproot Al Shabaab from Mogadishu.

The Twitter picture describes what you said, but look at the other ones and tell me that doesn't remind you of the barren landscape of central Somalia. Lower Shabelle has historically been and still is the most productive region in terms of crop production. So if our best region is looking like that then :francis:

Lower Shabelle is dependent on a river that is simply too small for the number of people that live along its banks. Water use inside K5 has barely increased and the river is already drying up before it reaches Middle Shabelle. If the irrigation projects that K5 has planned for Imey, Godey, Qalafe etc... get going, Lower Shabelle may not get any water even during normal flow periods.

Gedo should have recieved all of the investments in agriculture that Lower Shabelle recieved for the 30 years we had a government. All irrigation infrastructure south of Qoryooley is now utterly useless. The same will be true for Middle Shabelle this decade and Hiraan in the 2030s. All of that agricultural production will shift west to K5.

The picture you paint is very gloomy, hopefully it doesn't get that bad, can't be doing with more water wars.

Gedo, especially west of the Juba, is useless in terms of farming, there's a reason is was sparsely populated before Marehan came. That place needs serious soil amendments.

Lower Shabelle was a great farming region long before the 60s, vast quantities of Madows wouldn't have been brought there to work the land if it wasn't, nor would the Italians set up shop either. But I get what you mean, productivity increased during the gov years.

This is totally wrong. The valley of the Juba from Dolow to Luuq is prime agricultural land and it has no roads, canals, bridges etc... That area of Gedo alone, ignoring Baardheere, has more agricultural potential than all of Lower Shabelle. Gedo has vertisols, cambisols and fluvisols; all are perfectly good for agriculture.

The problem is that the Marehan remain culturally a northern clan and prefer to use the river as a glorified watering trough for their livestock. They continue to dislike farming as it is still thought of lower class work.

Gedo/middle/lower jubba was populated by oromo which was conquered. as for MX today they settle mainly in gedo/ middle jubba and parts of lower jubba.

as @Thegoodshepherd said, Gedo is fertile it just needs investments which is happening now.
