I don’t get this opposition to changing to a 5 year term for FGS if we’re going to accept all the FMS’s are now 5. The only legitimate complaint should be that it’ll only come into existence in the next parliament.

It’ll happen anyway too, usually takes a year for the elections progress to conclude. 2026 election is 100% not happening

I don’t think it is going to work, and I certainly hope it doesn’t.

These 5 year FMS terms should apply only to Laftagareen who has a legitimate excuse (Parliament selection is after presidential election) ) but these other southern regions such as HS, GM, JL have no reason to extend their terms and it should apply to NEXT leaders of those federal states.

JL term ends in August, if that flies through without any problems and Madoobe stays for another year, then your theory of 100% no elections in 2026 will be a reality.

Regardless election process starts after the President’s term is up. It’ll take a while to select MPs so expect a 2027 election anyway. Happened in HSM’s first term too.

If the constitution is completed and NCC agrees on it so we can have parallel FMS elections and then FGS then I’ll support it. But if it’s just a lazy ‘give me a year’ and we still haven’t defeated Shabaab and got the constitution completed then no.
