Dr. Osman i’m a proud puntlander and I apprecieate your knowledge. I also want to believe in somalinimo and Somaliweeyn but we are far far away from that right now. But when it comes to Puntland I believe there is almost no limits on what we can achieve and believe that Allah has blessed us in so many ways. But there is one thing that bothers me. In order for us to develop and have forreign investors and have people choose Puntland let's over Qatar or Kenya then we need the best security in the horn of africa if not africa.
I’m not comparing us to them as of right.
But we do potentially have same natural recources as then and our land is not a dessert.
But I believe our borders are almost impossible to secure. We have a very long border on the south and norh west. We also have a flat land that so any threat can enter Puntland without the need of using border controlled roads.
The reason why border security matters is because we are not like the gulf countries who don't border unstable country (besides Saudi bordering yemen) and most importantly the have natural bordering mountains to yemen. Look at it this way - they would never be where they are today if they didn’t have stable neighbours and good security.
So my questions are: How would you deal with We also have too many enemies for us to deal with all them once.
1.Somaliland who basically want to occopy a large part of constitutional Puntland. And they will stop at nothing to achieve that. I believe part of that is us (MJ) as we don’t want give up the presedency.
And that we have not fought and invested enough on dhulbahante land.
2. Moqdisho. They want to centralise power and have south and somaliland share power between them. Just look at what Hassan sheik is trying to do with Jubbaland.
3. Ethiopia. No need to specify here.
4. USA and the west.
5. The Gulf countries. They use Somalia in proxy wars and they buy our ports just so we can’t use them. We potentially have oil and we have ports in strategic locations. This things are proven facts.
6. Kenya. Somali people have invested a lot of money in kenya. They want somali money in kenya and not in a stable somalia.
Somali people are one the people who most loyal to their culture and they would even choose a developing somalia over Kenya if the conditions where right. Don’t even get me started on NFD.
So how would you deal with Puntland and our border security?
I would have some type of special federal solution with the rest of somalia.
Can you answer this question and also how you would deal with the Somaliland disputed border and all our other enemies?
I also don’t think SCC/Khatumo is a good idea when our unity is one most natural unities you can find in Somalia.
It just makes weaker diveded and all our enemies listed above can easily use us against one another.
Plus the south had never any intentions in officialy recognizing SCC/Khatumo as FMS.
It would not matter how much development we make unless we deal with our border issue which is our achilles heel.
