Do you think self hatred is a big problem within the Somali community?

From constant repetition of fictitious IQ statistics, hatred of ones native skin colour, putting other cultures and world views on a pedestal and division into clans, gender and political differences. What exactly is the end game for all of this?

How exactly does this benefit anyone? And why are those that perpetuate these thought patterns so much more vocal than those who do not?

It stands to reason and common sense that if you want more love in your life, that you should immerse yourself in loving thought patterns and not constantly dwell on hate and hate inducing news.

Maybe the controversial news, topics and posts from users on here that cause division are more entertaining. But then we should ask ourselves why are we attracted to this rather than constructive information?

Maybe this spate of self hatred will create more humble individuals, which in that case all is not lost. Or perhaps those that spread this trend think themselves above the insults and have a nefarious agenda by spreading this paradigm.

I don’t think most Somalis are self-hating. In fact, I think they suffer from delusions of everything being ok.

Somali Pride has to be a put on, bc there’s realistically very little to be proud of.

Somalis born in this mess, especially those back home, should take solace. It’s not their fault. Do whatever you can to make things better for you and yours, and others in the homeland if it’s in your power.

You call it self hate others call it factual statements. Why are you guys too hyper-sensitive when the current situation of Somalia or Somalis are discussed? We are the poorest, still engaged in mayhem, chaos, have the highest child mortality rates, illiteracy, poverty, every couple of years, we suffer from massive famines and ask the world to feed us while we still kill one another. We are a shitty country that all other countries warn their citizens not to become like us. We are guarded by Amisom troops who came from countries who have experienced civil wars long after ours started like Burundi or Sierra Leone & we continue to fight over dusty villages because of clan pride.

Don’t start me with Somalis in the diaspora who are knifing, shooting one another or are involved in serious and petty crimes, welfare fraud, terrorism and the diaspora jails are full of Somalis. On the face of these undeniable facts, what pride is left that we are still protecting? Zero.

There is no self hate but Somali self destruction of biblical proportion. If you can’t handle this simple truth, Sxb quit social media.

Somalia is actually on the up, it’s just going to take sometime and it’s definitely not the worst country lol, go look at Syria Afghanistan Congo South Sudan Yemen Columbia they are in a much worse state, while we’re slowly improving. Things would speed up if we had a ruthless ruler though.

When it comes to somali history it's always from the late 19th to 20th century. Furthermore, apart from that there is nothing good tbh talked about apart from when islam entered the Somali peninsula in modern day Somaliland.

That's very true and Frank. In all honesty, somalis should only be proud when islam entered Somali peninsula and the day they got independence from France, Great Britain and Italy. In my household its 26th June and 18th may

This thread is bs, I never seen self hate in real life other than a few on twitter and on here. Most Somalis I have come across in real life were proud Somalis who rep their country proudly.
