Italy at their worst were way more advanced. The went up against nomads with a tusbax and camels.

Those same nomads defeated Portugal at its peak so yeah I am surprised by the fact we lost against the Spaghettis
I’m not aware of them defeating the Portuguese who I’m sure did not attempt to colonize Somalia the way the Italians wanted. And Italy were a respectable powerhouse during that time, much more so than Portugal.

Somalias colonisation came after the airplane was invented. Up until the mass technology innovation jump in the early 20th century, Somalis we’re giving a good fight.
They had guns, we had guns. They had cannons, we had cannons. They had boats and we had boats.
However, when planes became a thing. No Somali entity had either the money or the know how to have a plane or even use one if it were available to them.
Let alone other innovations such as machine guns, tanks and chemical weapons such as poison gas. The war would’ve been more brutal if we continued to fight.

Airplanes were invented by then and air superiority was granted to the europeans. You cannot compare the performance of the somali defenders between these two Eras.
You either keep up with the arms race or you lose.
