Security Council to vote on the renewal of UNSOM mandate today

The Security Council is voting to renew the UNSOM mandate in Somalia after being delayed for 5 months to allow for protracted elections and the establishment of the new federal government. While the mandates objectives are congruent with the priorities of HSM's government the review from last month recommends a few more things. Most important of which is the type of federalism Somalia will implement.

"While noting that UNSOM’s mandate remains relevant and is aligned with the federal government’s priorities, the review stressed the need for the mission’s leadership to prioritise and sequence the mandate elements, and conduct a staffing and reconfiguration review to match the mission’s capacities with its key priorities and to strengthen its core political functions. It recommended that UNSOM provide support to the federal government and federal member states to agree on the model of federalism they want to implement in Somalia. Other important priorities highlighted by the review include support for reconciliation, democratic participation, security sector reform (SSR), human rights, the rule of law, and the women, peace and security agenda. Moreover, the review emphasised the significance of UNSOM’s close cooperation with ATMIS and recommended the establishment of joint co-located teams on substantive overlapping mandate areas. It also stressed the need to start planning for the security transition and drawdown of ATMIS in accordance with resolution 2628 of 31 March, which endorsed the decision by the AU Peace and Security Council to reconfigure the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) into ATMIS."

The review from last month

I think one thing Somalis agree on regardless of political views or clan ties is that xalane and AMISOM must leave.

Maybe caghdeer would like KDF to stay in Kismaayo. Also, SL would want to see the south in chaos so it strengthens their independence claim and Puntland would still want to see the south central under AMISOM just so they can faan about it about how they are more peaceful than us.

But other than that, most other somalis want to see a foreign free Somalia.

Why Somalis so stupid. A bomb killed 100 people 3 days ago just as UNSOM vote in the UN was coming. No one can see the picture??!

I’ve never understood why they just don’t directly fund the SNA instead of doing this. It would cost less to have a 200k Somali army than a 20k useless Swahili amisom army.

That's not the idea the idea is to control and keep the country down like they are doing in Haiti. Stupid low Iq somalis chose traibalism than nationhood.
