This picture was taken around 2007 in Dhahar when the locals successfuly banned and put to end those involved the charcoal/killing of wild animals ,and that banned has been in place since 2007 .those involved in the charcoal business were armed and came from all around the country also Ethiopia and their was lot of deaths from all sides .

I saw a few charcoal trucks when I was driving to Garowe. Something needs to be done about this before Sanaag is destroyed permanently. These trucks don't have license plates by the way and they use the main roads, so, why aren't the soldiers at the check-points stopping them? There are powerful people colluding here.
No charcoal for the most part of Sanaag for the last decade or so . Charcoal comes from other regions such as Karkaar ,Bari,Isaaq areas (somaliland)or South and Central Somalia.
Anyone caught cutting trees ought to be shot no question asked especially in the north.They are no different to shabaab dogs
The charcoal daacayad was used by other qabils and even other daroods as a deragatory term. No tree were cut for the last 25 years.
