Reserved Somalis

Please gather in this thread so we can stare at eachother silently.

So there's a stereotype that all Somalis are loud. We can get quite loud but there's also quiet Somali's that noone notices since their being well..quiet.

All cultures do seem to value more outgoing people but it seems even more important amongst Somali's. Theres a maah maah that says, "Meel ka muuqo ama ka maqnow".

When I was younger and people would tell me I was too quiet, I would actually
put in so much effort to speak but I could never match them.

me 2. Don't get me wrong, I like talking, but sometimes it's just nice to sit in silence y'know? U can't do that with most ppl tho because they get awkward and start thinking something is wrong lol

Now I just tell ppl it's because I'm always lost in my thoughts haha

This thread supports my theory that most Sspot members have autism. The high rates of autism within the Somali community cannot continue to be ignored wallahi.

somali ppl think youre mentally challenged if youre a quiet/reserved person. ive lost count of the amount of times ive been called miskeen in a condescending way:bell:

I forgot to mention that the Isaaqs have the highest rates among the clans due to inbreeding throughout the centuries. They haven't expanded their territories at all, unlike the Darods. The sooner you Isaaqs accept this, the faster we can improve. :yacadiim:

It's a stereotype. Just like the one that says all Asians are smart.

I've always been quiet/shy as a child and although now I'm a little more outgoing, I'm still introverted and probably always will be. It's sad that many Somalis think that quiet = stupid or weak. Some of the most intelligent and strongest people in history were introverts.

I think it's more difficult to be reserved as a woman because of the way we socialize. I've been told many times that I come across as intimidating so I've learned to do some small talk here and there.

Somali people will assume your miskeen and keep pushing you until you loose your cool and then ask what's wrong. Lol.

I talk a lot. Maybe too much. Even though I like my space and to be alone sometimes.

Extrovert doesn't have to mean you're loud. Being loud is just bad behavior imo.
