Asha Hassan, the head teacher of Sheikh Ali Osman School, stands with some of her students during lunch break. She has taught here for 22 years.

Hargeisa is a vibrant city, thriving with potential as the local communities and the displaced enjoy shared services and equal opportunities. The region has approximately 18,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers mainly from Ethiopia and Yemen.

“Life is good here and we have never experienced any problems with the Somali community,” she says. “They accommodate us, have taught us their language and given us food when we are lacking.”

The steps that Somaliland has taken towards inclusivity and integration of refugees into national systems is aligned with the new approach towards displacement, placing Somaliland in an exemplary position in the region.

Somaliland understands Islam far better then the rest of Somalia. I give them that credit only. Their wahabiyah crap like we have in PL. That is new islam from the 70s, xitaa ma aha islamka tarikhiyah lagu dhaqmi jiray waqtiga nebiga, waa islam nocyada sacudiyanka ah oo loo abuuray arimo siyasadeed looga soo horjeesanaye waagaa cusmaniyinta oo ay carabta la safteen engriska. Marka waxay abuureen diin uu gaar ah si aysan cusmaniyinta waaga jiray aysan uu soo adeegsan shacabkeeda wadaado iyo waxasi.

Wahabiya is purely political, it has no basis in original islam. All of Islam was pure sufi since 7th century untill the ottoman empire collapsed. I like how Hargeysa preach in mosque to stay away from 'bad' things but they don't 'enforce' or take away people free will through force like the rest of Somalia. Now hadi wax laga baran karo hargaysa waa sida diint iyo dhaqanku isdhex gasho, i will give them that.

That is all the prophet used to he used to PREACH in the mosque lakin waqti iyo awood uma haayin inu guri walbo iyo kastumo walbo firiyo sida dawladaha somalia ka jira. You cant force religion at all, you can only preach nothing else. Next u will see in Somalia policeka inay guri walbo galan shanta jeer malinti si loo hubiyo inay shacabka salada tukanayan. That is the madness of wahabiyah.

The Somali govt has to monitor where these local sheikhs go and learn islam from. Each country they go and study islam it has it's own politics and interests which will also be added into the islam being taught to your future imams and sheikh. The only one that is decent and historical is the one in egypt. The rest are new learning centers like madinah one all 'political' that one.
