'Refugee' an insult in the Arab World / Africa?

I noticed Arabs and Africans use the term 'refugee' (current or former - i.e. your parents) as an insult

What's so insulting about being a refugee? As if living in the Arab World or Africa is better than the West.

I think they (most Arabs and Africans) want to leave their shithole countries as well, but insult refugees and migrants as a way to boost their own petty self-esteem.

Even the poorest people in Western society lives better than many in Africa & ME.

If you are a descendant of a refugee or you were a refugee decades ago they still use it as an insult against you. It's redicilous.

Between 1988 and 1994 most Somalis were real refugees. The entire government collapsed. Also, around 2006-2016 when Al-Shabaab was big in the South there were many real Somali refugees. Nowadays not so much.
