Referendum on federalism and states

Which do you approve for our country

  • Centralism/real federalism with 18 regions

    Votes: 23 59.0%
  • Loose (con)federalism with 5 to 7 states

    Votes: 16 41.0%

  • Total voters
    39
  • Poll closed .
Imagine if there was a referendum held inside our country to determine whether Somalia should have a confederal system / decentralised federal system with around 6 states or Somalia should have a unitary system / centralised federal system with 18 regions (13 if SL doesn't come back)? I believe the confederation/loose federalism option would win because the current federal states collectively have established a large amount of loyalty amongst the citizens

Where is the proof that clan states have a large amount of loyal citizens? Stop making baseless claims.

Clannists benefits from the current status quo which is far from democratic. Old men who only care to line their pockets, full of cuqdud, have no care about their nation and holding all the power.

The average age of Somalia is 16.7 years, they were born 15 years after the civil war. If the power were in the youth, the opposition would have no chance against Farmaajo who favours centralism.

Countries are always more successful when they devolve power closer to the people. We should develop a council system culture.

Centralism always is a disaster the moment you elect a bad leader

We can start with Giving somaliland ictiraaf it will end this confusion and this qashin 4.5 sharing .
Lose federalism with 5 -7 states sounds most appealing

Centralism to Federalism to Confederalism to Union of states to Independent states this will not resolve the clans fighting each other for resources, land, IC donations whatever the case is. The only thing that will mitigate clan rivalry is by increasing our national budget and working towards becoming a wealthy nation, poverty is breeding ground for clannism, in a rich society clannism is irrelevant and dies out.

I disagree. Any political system that is improperly structured is open to abuse by corrupt leaders. The key to solving these issues is not by abandoning one system for another equally vulnerable system, but to create institutions that regulate bad behaviour. This means clear limits on government power, a robust and independent judiciary, a bill of rights that enshrines our democratic rights, free speech for journalists, and a means for changing political leadership.

I've said this before here but Somalis really need to learn the right lessons from their experiences with authoritarianism. The failure of the Somali Democratic Republic doesn't mean that a unitary state is unviable, it just means any system with unaccountable leaders is bad for the reasons you outlined.

Guys shouldn't we not copy the same situation Ethiopia was in during the TPLF led EPRDF's 27 year rule whereby Ethiopia remained in practice centralised despite being officially a federation and Addis Ababa remained, just like pre-1991, the all dominant primate city to the detriment to the rest of that country

TPLF style fake federalism would make Somalia a one city state under a de facto unitary system
