I wouldn't underestimate them , Geeljires respect and listen to these guys more than any government official or authority ,for that reason these Maamuls relay on them to keep the peace and solve clan infightings , they're the glue that holds our tribal society together .
In Koonfur it's a different story , they get less respect and no one listens to them and you can witness the result lol.

when the civil war started the decisions weretaking by warlords with guns who effectivelybecame de facto leaders of their clan where traditional elders were sidelined from any role of ending the conflict
