Recorded broadcasts in 1966 from Colonial French Djibouti attempting to cede Djibouti to Ethiopia

I stumbled upon this shocking post on Twitter which shows the French colony of Djibouti and Ethiopia calcaaling about the Somali government which they stated was a "Majeerteen government" because Puntite officials blocked French and Ethiopian ambitions of ceding Djibouti to Ethiopia, have a look Somalispot:

Days after the embarrassing French Djibouti broadcast Ethiopia decided to follow suit running with the same narrative of clannism and heavy fixation/false criticism of the Government because they were pursuing somaliweyn

It is clear to see from the broadcasts that French Somaliland and Ethiopia desperately tried to cause civil unrest within Somalia in order to deter the new nation from achieving its goal “Somaliweyne” The ideology of Greater Somalia was created by the Somali Youth League.

In other words if it wasn't for Majeerteen Djibouti would have been given to Ethiopia by the french :rejoice:.

Alx we didn’t leave Djibouti to those animals. If they got control cisse would’ve been displaced and Djibouti today would be dominated by habeshas, afars and oromos

Puntites so gala and tell me your favourite quote from this broadcast, mine is:

" The Majertein governnent has made it clear that it will invade Ethiopia if the people of Djibouti freely decide to unite with Ethiopia. The Government must be against a free referendum in Djibouti if it proposes to declare war when the people Djibouti choose to unite with Ethiopia.
This is a disgrace! The Majertein government decision to declare war to prevent unification of the peoples of Djibouti and Ethiopia is unenforceable and absurd. How can 2 million people of Somalia fight 30 million Ethiopians?" :drakelaugh: :pachah1:

"When they assumed office, Abdirazak and Aden Abdullah Osnan one a Majertein and the other a stooge of the Majertein pledged that they would improve the standard of living of the Somali people and would honestly and sincerely fulfil their duties to them but the conditions of the people have not shown any improvement since then,
This is because these two men are working for their own interest and that of the Majeerteen, and anyone who dares speak up is sent to some dismal place” :jcoleno::ileycry::drakelaugh:

Interesting read. :nvjpqts:

Anyways, I do not think it was feasible in the first place. The emperor was already given Galbeed and the access to the sea via Eritrea, which was also given to them.

They never thought Eritrea would secede and they would be begging Djibouti for sea access.

nah ethiopia really wanted djbouti saxib. the french even promised to hand it to them if they were ever forced to leave the region. djbouti port was greater than any in eritrea at the time and was in a far better geographic position with a large natural harbour. had a railway set up and everything

They wanted Somalia as well. The thing is, they never really held any claimed over Djibouti. It was a French colony, if I can recall. Countries of the IC, which included Italy and Britain, were actually in favor of uniting all Somali territories. The only reason why they got lucky with Galbeed was because they forcefully held it prior to Western powers arriving, thus legitimizing their claim over it.

Also, why would western powers cede Djibouti into Abyssinia, when they could make much higher profits by forming it into an independent state? As you stated, the Djibouti port was highly valuable and at a far better geographic position. Why would they, being the money hungry powers they are, give claims into that port when they could use Djibouti (as they do now) as an international parking lot?

As aforementioned in my previous text, it was not viable and highly improbable, no matter how many times the Emperor got on his knees and begged for it.
