He wrecked the whole economy, he suppressed free market, he made us dependent on foreign aid, of course the Ogaden war was terrible. I blame these somali figures for everything
1. SYL, they voted against an Islamic republic in favor of democracy and a manmade constitution
2. Siad Barre
3. Aideed, Ali Mahdi, instead of creating an provisional government
4. Hassan Dahir Aweys, founding father of terrorism in Somalia
5. Abdullahi Yusuf gave the Ethiopians greenlight to invade us and kill 25k innocent Somalis
all of these Somalis should be blamed for our downfall. Now lets pray that HSM fixes the mistakes made in the past.
We became independent during the height of the Cold War, if we became an Islamic theocracy, we would’ve been deposed in 3 minutes.
You had two choices back then, democracy or dictatorship.
He shouldve gone with the arabic script. 90% of Somalis wouldve been classified as literate today.

Iran became an Islamic republic during the end of the Cold War. Saudi Arabia wasn’t as conservative until the 1970s.
Political Islam didn’t exist when Somalia became independent. The thinking in the Arab world was Baathism, which preached secularism.
I am from PL and agree with this. The conversation is always about Osmanya but there are at least two other indigenous scripts.
Regardless, Somalia should stick to Latin BUT if we ever switch, only Arabic should be considered.
Arabic script is worse than latin and osmanya it doesn't even have the capacity to clearly differentiate between somali vowels and diphthongs.The SYL actually made the choice to pick the Latin script IN 1962.
UNESCO also made their own findings in 1966 and declared that the SYL should pick the Latin script.
It was unable to pass parliament due to Islamic sheikhs putting pressure on MPs to chose Arabic instead.
When Barre took power, he dissolved parliament, allowing him to finalise the transition.

Its the one we used for centuries prior and worked fine. Plus more people can read it than any other script.
But I am against implementing Arabic script due to the large financial and logistical cost.
Somalia has a million problems to deal with before even considering switching scripts. Our people are starving as we speak.
Not really, most of us want for PL only to adopt it over time. You can stick with your latin or pick Chinese script for all we care.

It’s more Somali hoteps (SomTeps), who have an inferiority complex and we’re raised abroad who obsess about it. Osmanya looks the most “exotic” to these idiots so they think it’s a good script. If you took a poll in Puntland probably most people would endorse either keeping the Latin script or re-adopting the Arabic script.
all of those but 4 was good. 5 made sense economically since all Somalis were supposed to move to the south.
