i believe these stories because of how shy habesha people are. their ancestors were never conquered and raped by violent warriors, and they were always hiding in the mountains never trying to conquer lands themselves(thats why their empire barely has any land despite it being so old), so they never evolved to be outgoing and dominant people. all the pieces fit together
