Randille people and language

Rather interesting. I never knew Randille language was this close to Somali. At least from the sentences this lady is sharing, unless of course she is someone, who lived amongst Somalis, learnt the language, or a lost sister, it is very much the same.

The people too look similar, at least the ones, who have not fully assimilated into the local African tribes.

According to Spencer (1973), the Rendille are organized into an age grade system of patrilineal lineage groups (keiya), which are subsumed under fifteen clans (group). Of those, only nine are considered authentic Rendille. These Northern Rendille or Rendille proper are consequently the only ones that are included in the traditional Rendille moiety (belesi). The remaining six clans that are excluded from the moiety consist of mixed individuals. Five of those clans are of Rendille (Cushitic) and Samburu (Nilotic) descent. Collectively, the latter hybrid groups are referred to as the Ariaal or Southern Rendille.[10][14] The Somalis draw a distinction between the "original" or "good" ethnic Rendille (known as asil), and the "bad" or assimilated Rendille ("those who speak Samburu").[15]

i heard a theory long ago that the rendille are a group of somalis who were exiled from the land after they refused to accept islam. they were known as reer diin la' or reer diin diid. Might be the truth looking at how similar the languages are lol

Here is a question for the anthropologists and historians: if people, who have been separated from Somalis 5,000 years ago, as suggested in one of the online readings, could still maintain their culture and language, how is first generation Somalis in the West, barely 50 years, have lost it all?
im neither of those but its probably due to somalis in the west having to adapt to the dominant culture over there while most cultures in the horn of africa(cushitic ones) are somewhat similar so large deviations would be rare.

its not comparable to one another

Other than their saying, or being Somalis, do they know as to their origin - how they are related to other Somalis? If so, how far back could they trace it?
I thing they have always interacted with Somalis as they live in similar retain, so identify much more with Somalis than Ethiopians. They carry all Somali Y haplogroups T, E so alott of their oral history are probibally treu.

Some of this is a bit wild.

Additionally, another widely-told story of their origins, in contrast to the Rendil tribal traditions and Marsabit indigenous claims about their origins, is: They are of Somali descent and were once Muslim. Despite being one of the leading theories about the origin of the Rendil people, it is also clear that this argument is based solely on ex post facto indications of linguistic similarity to Somalis.

In fact, according to Professor Gunter Schley, an anthropologist with many years of experience working in the region, the reverse of this hypothesis may be more true, and the fact is that Somalis have very good ancestral Somalis. They are said to be descendants of humans. It resembles a rendil and may have been identical to a primitive rendil (see Schlee 2014, 1975). The first ethnographic study of Rendil was published by William A. Chanler in the early 20th century. They said that the pure Rendir they encountered was tall, slender, auburn-skinned, with soft, straight hair and narrow features. Chanler further noted that many of the Rendir had "fierce" blue eyes, which were later attributed to Augustus Henry Keane (1900), John Scott Kelty (1904), and John Henry Patterson. (1909) also pointed out physical peculiarities.

Imo what more likely happened is pagan oromos conquered the NFD and western side of Jubba river 500 years ago, assimilating the somalis present there and cutting the rest of from others. The rendille people were isolated from other somalis and thus split off. Alhamdulillah many of them have come back to the fold of Islam after contact with somalis.

i mean its all speculation at the end of the day but this is very unlikely to be the case. every single oromo invasion has been warded off and all the lands you mentioned are 90%+ inhabited by somalis today. idk if so much has changed the last 500 years for us to conquer that much land

Wardey Oromos conquered all of Waamo from smaller Somali clans in the 1600-1700’s after Borana under the pagan β€œprophet” Mooro Uchama chased them out of Liiban and Diire. Ejji Somalis reconquered it in the 1900’s.
Afmadu was their capital, and Gedo comes from one of their chiefs
