Racist Amhara Eskinder Nega raises the price of a house in donations and plans to found Amhara popular Front

LKY transforming Singapore single-handedly is a bit of a myth. Singapore is 733.1 km2 and the location of the island, just suspended in the Malacca Strait that guarantees the control on 40% of global trading. It was always gonna be rich. The Gulf had ungodly amounts of oil, no such silver bullet for Ethiopia.

Egypt's current per capita income level is $3,600, Ethiopia around $1,000. Ethiopia's 2020 GDP is 107.6 billion USD. Let's be optimistic and assume Ethiopia averages at 7% GDP growth for the next 25 years which is possible for a country as poor as Ethiopia. That gives you $581 billion . Ethiopia by 2045 will have a population of 190million.

So at best Ethiopia by 2045 would have a GDP per capita of $3k. That still makes it poorer than 2020 Egypt or 2011 Syria. Very difficult to see how these economic gains (which would be a miracle btw) are enough to offset ethnic grievances. I think the country is doomed tbh, at best it limps along, at worst it explodes.

Who knows, maybe AI will be Africa's silver bullet

Yeah, it doesn't seem like Ethiopia have a promising future through many angles.

The only aspect that can speed its development is how extensive the country is able to exploit its natural resources. They appear to have the upper-hand when it comes to the their water sources with the GERD dam, with regards to Egypt; and more of them to built soon in the Oromia and Somali region, affecting Somalia as well.

Looking at the Somali region, they've found a relatively vast amount of oil and gas reserves. Which they were supposed to drill not too long ago, along with a planned gas export pipeline through the Somali region. Don't even know what happened to it. Even if it were to come into existence, most of it would be gone through corruption or heavy taxes from the intended beneficiaries.

Overall, Ethiopia will have to deal with both ethnic & (internal and external) resource conflicts if they want to remain intact.

vietnam was in a worse position to most African states in 1990, and Taiwan poured in FDI and literally built up SEZ's & industry for them.

It's impossible to develop without heavy sponsorship from the 1st world

I just want to say that I appreciate all the valuable information you provide us, walaal.

That’s how Israel developed as well, despite deceiving us in how they achieved everything on their own. Following the end of the WW2, they got billions upon billions in reparations. Not only that, its predecessor British mandate of Palestine had advanced infrastructure built by the Ottomans during their century+ rule. Plus all international and prominents Jews and Jewish organizations pumping in investments.

With that said, foreign investment will occur over time if there are condition enabling it, like stability and flexibility of a gov’t, privatizations/liberalization of its markets, favorable tax and other policies etc.

Becoming a first world country is not our immediate objective. We should be seeking to follow in the footsteps of similar emerging economies like Bangladesh. As long as the poverty rate is reduced to a single digit figure in the near future and having a mostly (lower) middle class population would be an accomplishment in itself.

Eakinder Nega won like 50 different prizes from the west for being a “liberal prisoner of conscience” and all his books and speeches are like “Oromos came from Madagascar and are related to lemurs”.

To be fair to him that was taught in Ethiopian schools until the 1970’s, they used a slur instead of oromo back then though.
what he says about somalis and ogaden?
