Racism against Tutsi- discussion

We shouldn't care about Tutsi's. They are far removed from us and would've been another enemy if they bordered us.

Somalis don't even care about the neighbouring "Cushites" in Kenya and attack them as should be done.

The situation has several sides to it. There certainly is a danger faced and marginalization of the Banyamulenge people in Congo. Historically in the 90s, the Tutsis faced a genocide by the Hutus. Today the Hutu and the Tutsis are strangely considered one macro-ethnic group including the Twa, who are even more divergent from both, under the umbrella of Banyarwanda are living in peace and order. However, both Tutsi armed groups supported by Rwanda in Congo and some Hutu that partook in the Tutsi genocide are severely committing atrocities on the Congolese peoples who live in the peripheral regions.

- The Tutsi natives of Congo, not the Rawandese are oppressed and their status in their region is still contested, they are often killed by other Bantu groups that neighbor them.

- Rwandan warlords of Tutsi origin coupled with the Rwandan government have taken operations in Congo doing atrocities, mainly to extract natural resources at the cost of innocent civilians who are ethnic Congolese.

- You have Hutu militant groups that also do the same, people who fled after the Rwandan genocide that have settled in Congo to extract their selfish gains and terrorize the Congolese.

- Then you have the Congolese villagers who have been exploited and killed, raped by all those groups with the national government too weak to help them.

By the way, it is not safe for Tutsis in Congo. We have people who have attacked Tutis through phenotypic recognition in Kinshasa. It would probably be dangerous for a Somali, potentially being confused for a Tutsi. It is true that the Banyamulenge in Congo are othered by the surrounding people they have been in conflict with, people questioning their status, and many seeking to uproot them. One can view it as a long conflict that was within regional Congo between peripheral competitive Bantu groups, while others explain how they are being used as scapegoats for the rivalry issues that Rwanda presents in Congo. It is true that their phenotype is something that many Bantu Congolese take note of as an indication of foreign origin, however, I think it is the consequence of the broader conflict they have had plus their cultural and lifestyle differences and competition between local tribes to broader national issues. So I think the Cushitic vs Bantu assessment or framing is somewhat too simplistic. We have also Rwandans who do operations that are economical in nature on the backs of protecting Tutis in Congo as well. One can maybe think that the Rwandan groups do callous killings because of how Banyamulenge is treated.
