In yemen over 30% of the fertile soil is used just for qat, using only 1 plant like qat to consume that much land which would also degrade the soil and lead to a loss of biodiversity, it also uses a lot of water which would drive your country to the brink of collapse. Qat only became popular in yemen and somali after wars started happening, it never picked off in gulf states
