No they’re not if they are used as hunters or for farm defense or if your blind then they are halal
I think now there is no halal way other than shepherdnimo that u can keep a dog
I read this answer of a question about keeping dogs and it said that these days there is all of this technology and alarms that they took the role of dogs in protecting the house so dogs are no longer in need

Somalis are not an empathetic humans, instead they are the opposite , it is non existent to discover affectionate expression in their vocabulary hence there's literally no translation for "puppy love"
Google Translate does not provide an accurate interpretation so expect grammatical errors and infeasible answers.

But although there are few cases that history had recorded and the outsiders documenting the rudimentary lifestyles of the Nomadic Somalis encountered a mysterious marginalised group despite these people not being popular today nor nowhere mainstream, some still carry on the their tradition

The culture is called Eey-Sooran is very common in the Jubbas similar to puppy love but instead it means dog owner .
are you familiar with the Eeyle sub-clan, nah I bet a thousand Rands that you're unfamiliar of their hundreds years of traditions and customs which was taking care of Shepard dogs raising young pups.
I'm not particularly from that clan but also several clans along the riverbanks (excluding Daaroods and Hawiye)
grew up with dogs , my family and distant relatives owned several Shepard dogs, capturing hyenas and taming leopards for generations in Somalia before the civil war , integrated pups were in our lives collecting them from the cities where they were poisoned by people , mostly it was to protect and guard our livestocks and substinence farms from the hoarding thieves that were the main reasons since razor barb wire fences didn't protect these mooryaans but a dog would make them shit their pants, also the sole purpose was guiding the cattles when herding , my father AUN took this stray pup off the streets , we named him Samatar Yare , a loyal family dog used to play with and throw a stick and it come back , it was there even during the civil war , he followed us and died near the Kenyan border .
Me and my brother buried him as he was the last family we ever had left .
