Is it me or has anyone noticed that Puntland's foreign relations has severely declined under President Deni?

Under former president Gaas foreign diplomats would usually make a stop at Garowe when travelling to the country but lately it seems that they're only making stops at Mogadishu or Hargeisa.

Other than the congratulatory visits by various ambassadors in January there hasn't been much happening since.

Has Deni conceded Puntland's foreign affairs to Mogadishu or is it too early to tell at this moment?

The problem with Puntland is it now effectively comes under Mogadishu. It gave up its autonomy long ago. In Farmaajo's centralised Somalia all roads lead to Mogadishu. It's effectively a city state

Thanks for your statement. Everything you said can also be attributed to Somaliland as it is also a federal state member.

It would be great to hear from our resident puntite scholars.

Your thoughts?

Puntland on its own would be more successful, but South Somalia is holding it back. I hope Somaliland builds strong relations with Puntland, they are the only sane people in Somalia.

amboli I don't know where you have been in the past five years or so but Puntland Foreign relations reached heights that were astronomical during the Faroole administration but under the inept Gaas that was destroyed like so many other things.

The government in Puntland is starting everything from scratch.

At least 2009-2014, the following five years many things stalled but because it reached heights during the previous years it spilled over but nothing was improved on and eventually halted and regressed from there.

We are in the process of rebuilding everything and reversing the many damages inflicted on the State by the incompetent and inept Abdiwali Gaas and his incompetent 'administration'.

Dr Amboli, I read your thesis with great interest. Your conclusions worries me. Foreign affairs reached high mountains under Gaas to the point the UN representative literally quoted Gaas'immortal words 'Somalia is not Mogadishu, Mogadishu is not Somalia'. We all remember all the famous pictures of Gaas sitting in a table of presidents, and the ironic picture of him being labelled as the president of Somalia. We all remember the calaacal of Faisal Warsame when he said Garoweus the new Addis Above, and foreign dignatories go to Garowe for Hajj.

Deni just started, let's see how he can turn the tide.

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

What do you mean declined?!
Puntland literally used to get more diplomats than Somaliland but the recent fallout between FGS and Kenya changed the game. Something is cooking up in East Africa.

Absolutely not saaxib, the reason Somaliland and Somalia need to have peace talks is because Somaliland broke away. It is not a federal state, it is just a breakaway state of Somalia. You mistake the two. The topic is about Puntland though, just thought you should know. :browtf:

I saw this, was it talks of development, peace, aid etc? What has the purpose of the visit?
yes and to strengthen ties between Italy and Puntland, get investment and funds, talks of upgrading Bosaso airport phase 2 and maybe other infrastructure projects. I personally hope we ask them to expand Bosaso port, Uae is doing jackshit for us.
