Puntland puts 200% tariffs on goods from Somaliland region

Damn Berbera port must be really successful if Puntland is forced to nuke trade from Somaliland

1door is most likely more honest, i bet you in bosaso they ask for bribes like Mombasa etc, how else do you explain a good imported from dubai, china etc is cheaper in Berbers than putnland, because they cost pretty much the same when buying them and shipping,

puntland is full of semi bantu adoomo baboons what do you expect,

Your post makes no sense, goods are cheaper to import in Bosaso than Berbera. This is related to khat flooding PL from SL lately.

Maybe, cause PL is handling such small consumable items for Somalia while Berbera is handling the bigger more valuable items due to a bigger deep sea port. It's totally unbalanced and we must barr them from PL. We already use their port for larger items that Bosaso port cannot dock down.

go ahead, just shooting yourself in the foot, if reer putnland had a better alternative than somalialnd, they would have used it,

you will increase their living costs and shoot your dry shyt hole region further in the foot, no one wins a trade war

your title says goods, if it was just chat it would have said Good as in single, one product, but goods is plural

regardless, why are goods coming from somaliland when puntland has her own port?

It’s not only khat but the 200% is targeting goods that aren’t necessary/essentials...the point is the main good that will be effected will be khat.

@Boqor Quark Boqor Cisman this @Teeri-Alpha has the nerve to question boqortoyo while his some peasant ogaden. The guy says he studies economics and doesn't know GDP is measurement of the nation domestic product. Key word is 'product' not 'products' lol. They can work out and estimate quite quickly your nation wealth by simply knowing the product u produce and the cost of each product. 1 dollar bottled water x 10 million people. 1 house x 10 million people. 1 banana x 10 million people. He doesn't even know it's about the final product. Unless Somalis focus on high-end final products our GDP will remain very low in the world's eye.

Infact I can't see any incentive for nomadic herders to switch lifestyles to such a low industry product when their final product a camel is worth 1k. Why would he switch to a bottled factory producing a 1 dollar bottle? this son of a Teeri is encouraging Somalis to work in peasant industries when their wealth rurally says otherwise. I want to know what economist he studied under. All economists base their understanding of farmer societies since that's where their from. We need a unique economist who recognizes the difference in our final product rurally and it's valuation.

That's how they worked out our livestock worth. Say there is 3-4 million people in PL. Let's say 1 camel per person. 1 camel per person in the nomadic setting will equal 3 to 4 billion dollars if the population is 3-4 million in the rural areas. Hence why the livestock is our major GDP, it's our most expensive product and hence 80% of our economy, the rest is basic and not very large impact at all. While this fool @Teeri-Alpha wants to encourage us to built 1 dollar product industry, why don't i just go to farming bananas u fuckin moron

I wish trump did come to somalia and slapped these motherfuckers in the face like @Teeri-Alpha with his stupid farming based economic degrees and trying to use such nonsense in PL where farming isn't the key wealth generator.

Somalis are not poor only the cities are poor. Their not lifting up their weight to add to the GDP because that will be divided to work how much income each citizen is worth. The rural guys are basically carryin our nation on their back. My awoowe and adeers are basically the backbone of the nation. They have the highest final product in the nation. Is there a single product in Somalia that is worth more then a camel? NO so go f*ck yourself waryaa. I am your KING BAH DUBAYS

The only thing that can come close to challenging the 'geel' is the 'housing market' and construction. But how many are done in a year? do we have statistics? it's not done by the locals, but a small niche group of diaspora. We can work this out on a yearly basis but it's not much.

If the average property is worth 50-100k, how many properties were completed in the single year? It depends on the amount of diaspora because they are the ones who are doing this.

I would say 10k diaspora return a year that actually inject an investment. So 100k x 10k diaspora population. At most it would be a 1 billion dollar industry the construction from the diaspora. Can we build a nation from such a small niche group? NO. We need to invest into the locals who then build houses themselves. We need to create them jobs or else we are DOOMED to poverty. We can't rely on 10k diaspora yearly to come and inject 1 billion in property investment. We simply can't.

I wish to attend the investment forum for PL this coming year, we need to discuss this topic in-depth and set a long-term plan that isn't changed from government to government, This is in our regional interest as a whole and not political issue. This is a regional issue as a whole and we need ONE POLICY and we must stick to it regardless of what government or politician comes to power.

Dumb move. Trade barriers are counterproductive to development.

It'll cause import cost increase massively in Puntland. As a result less money will be available to spend on development, contruction and investment. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot lol

Whereas before Puntland used to share import costs with Somaliland

If they really wanna save money they should ban Qat and claim their fair share of revenues from Mogadishu

PL & it's supporters on here are the most delusional bro, this hurts them more and they know it when they go through their market and ask where did you get this from they'll all mention places in Somaliland.

There's 4 large chicken plants countless farms large and small from Borama to Tukaraq plus all the milk / soap & juice processing plants on top of everything that's brought in.

Somalis are businessman and the ones that stop somalis from trading with each other is against Somali brotherhood.

This will backfire like they did last year sheet Tukaraq banning everything from Somaliland only to reverse it a day later

Items such as these and many more are too attractive for reer pl

Stop playing economics one way waryaa. Most of the large items that are undockable in Bosaso is business for SL, is it fair you always flood our market with small consumables which are either imported from dubai thru bosaso or made in PL.

Stay away from our small consumable market place as their no need to compete over such things and the increased tariff will slow this flooding of your products into PL. You are not invited to the Puntland investment Forum, you must stay out waryaa as we plan long-term the sectors that we need in order to realize our GDP vision for the state.

That's capitalism for you, that's how you improve the economy making it more competitive.

The economy works in supply n demand take that milk packet that's 6000SLSH or a bottle of water that only cost 1000SLSH only reason why water is cheap because there's 10 other bottle water companies operating

Water is cheap because it's commodity that is abudant, not because there is more water companies. That's like saying just because there is more car companies that means cars are cheap. No it's not the capital, design, parts and labor involved to create a car will always remain the same regardless if there is other car plants or not.

Your idea of economics is you base prices on what the next guy is selling, no you base your prices based on what your operating cost was and what sort of margin u need in order to live a decent life irrespective of what the next guy is pricing. So if the next guy is pricing something at a loss, you will do the same also is your mentality? DAMN stay out of these topics please, and stick to khat and music your expertise.

even islam does not allow trade tariffs, did you know even the Nabi SAW used to trade with the Jews, he would buy from them, he would even use his assets as collateral in case he was unable to pay

for me that is when tribe goes to far, like donald trump idiot who is destroying jobs

for every 1 job the US movement saves through trade wars they will kill around 14 jobs

let these midget semi bantu Tanzanian majerteens watch this short video

ask the bantu majerteen one question, if puntland is able to get her goods from somewhere, why not before? why were they relying on somalland for so long?

they will shoot their poorest in teh foot as it will be too expensive, for if they were able to get it cheaper, before, they would have had it cheaper from some where else

the economist Richard cobden said in 1840s when you place up trade barriers, instead of goods walking in armies will, the easiest way to have peace is to allow free trade, hence why the EU project was born in the first place, Germany would say if we eat the french again we would destroy our economy, so hence why the EU was a trade free zone first

Your post makes no sense, goods are cheaper to import in Bosaso than Berbera. This is related to khat flooding PL from SL lately.

It has nothing to with "Khat flooding". It states clearly that the purpose of the higher taxation is the increase of importing "goods with lesser priority". These type of goods are definied in this paper as drinks, water, clothes, household objects, bureau material, transport goods and only one of them is Khat.

There must have been a flooding with all kinds of these mentioned goods for some reason, if the taxation was doubled.
