Puntland: Police in Garowe seize 20,000 Bottles of Alcohol and 30kg of Hash

Police in Puntland Wednesday seized and destroyed 20,000 bottles of alcohol and 30 kilograms of hashish reportedly imported from Ethiopia.

Nugal regional police commissioner Mumin Abdi Shire told journalists the assortment of drugs was netted following a tip-off from members of the public.

Speaking at the scene where the drugs were set on fire in the outskirts of Garowe town, Shire said police were pursuing 16 people believed to be behind the import of the narcotics which are prohibited in Somalia.

The seizure of the narcotics follows a warning by authorities in Puntland this month against importation and use of the banned products.

A police officer was sentenced to five months in jail in January 2017 for being in possession of 12 cartons of alcohol in Garowe.

No-one cares about a drunk or druggy they harm themselves, what is making us poor is we don't crack down on the big criminals in the state who do fraud, corruption, justice system that are not reliable and flip and flop based on qabiil and money, parliaments who are like share-holders not representatives. Create a corruption and fraud department and 'defund' these general policing matters, we must prioritize the serious criminals over the small ones.
