Puntland Needs To Update Constitution Official Languages

I urge puntites to advice our silly govt that the working language of schools must include English. Rwanda did this immediately changing from Belgium official language. The business language of the world is English, love it, hate it, it's the fact and if we do not recognize it and ensure our schools are all equipped with english instruction early on, they will not be able to be employed anywhere and the poverty trap will remain.

Italian-Arabic is not the lingua francaa of the world. I am impressed with SL who ensured their language of instruction is english as they will be 'ripe' and ready for business investors, while puntites are told sorry we cannot hire you and your local talent lack the required business language skills.

Plus our constitution official language being italian, arabic, will effect all our knowledge fields. Students won't have access to english knowledge which 99% of knowledge is contained, so the human capital return will be low as their learning useless italian, arabic.

Official language should be only Somali which is our cultural tongue, the lingua-franca should be English and mandatory on all schools and learning. Arabic only for religion nothing else. Schools of knowledge must be english tongue and business, language of govt/home is somali

@Tropical Breeze Our people were very anti british becuz we taught they were going to christianize us like they did to other african countries and we felt their schools were places of learning regarding religious conversion not 'secular knowledge'.

Cuz learning back then meant 'madrassa' and they thought all schools were the same in the world and therefore highly suspicious of british schools. Our ppl were ignorant back then but there is no excuse we repeat their ignorance.

Tbh English is already taught in schools , and universities in Somalia primarily use English. What needs to be taught is Mandarin. China is currently the 3rd largest economy and their businessmen hungry for investment opportunities we have alot to offer the Chinese they're risk takers willing to work in conflict zones like Eastern Congo and Iraq. I saw recently how PL hosted some Chinese investors in Garowe and since then I've been thinking.

Why not teach our people their language?

@Tropical Breeze learning languages just 4 social communication advantage leads nowhere. Language must serve a national purpose like religious, social, business, knowledge gains. Yes the social communication of chinese will be useful for our diplomats but their knowledge repository is very minimal unlike the west to english plus their share of the global wealth even tho impressive is still not at the scale of the western world combined.

@Tropical Breeze the other problem is our large diaspora will not be able to connect with locals leading to diaspora never returning, that's why irish were smart to ensure english as their state language not irish and all irish no matter how distant still can connect to their homeland. We are essentially going to cut off GEN Z and everything born from them. Caqli xumada dalka taal is amazing.

All our diaspora talent born after gen z will simply not be able to re-connect cuz they won't be able to communicate with them leading to them turning their back forever, all our future talent will be concentrated to help the west while the local talent will dwindle to local standards of it's regionl dynamics.

Their is some truth that the education of a population creates it's human capital and it's a requirement for investors that a population have the skills and communication ability, plus it help rank that country liklihood of knowledge capital and reduce the risks of them being 'ignorant' and being a menace locally and globally.

The somali model of trying to pursue a population that is rich while their intellectually 'idiots' isn't going to raise anyone confidence. Intelligence is developed and if all the knowledge is in english and they lack the language skill to access it, how will their brain drain change?
