Dhabancad just announced that the government and 9 parties are discussing raising the number of political parties from 3 to 5.

There will probably need to change to the constitution, but the 9 parties support this move.

Has it officially been changed? This is a change all of us welcome. Another thing they need to change is allowing the registration of parties every 3-5 years instead of the current 10 years.

No change to the the constitution to increase the number of parties has been proposed in parliament.

Already some opposition rats have come out in opposition to the changes that the TPEC head has proposed, for example closed list & more parties. They want to paralyze Deni from being able to hold parliamentary elections on time, and to win a bigger portion of the vote if there are only 3 parties.

Over the next couple of months we will come to know exactly who has been standing in the way of Puntland’s development. Many of these people, like Faroole and his children, have turned out to be traitors.

I think only Mideeye was against increasing the parties to 5, all the other parties supported the proposal.

This is an aggressive schedule, if rather confusing. Does this mean each political org. gets only 3 days to campaign. How does that work?

Whilst this is the right process, one questions as to its political implications.

The Speaker of Puntland Parliament Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril today appointed an advisory committee tasked with advising on the constitutional amendment proposed by Puntland State Government.

The five member committee is chaired by Sharmarke Ali Elmi, and is to be aided by the legislative director of the parliament and the administrative and financial director of the parliament.
