Puntland should not look towards Somaliland tribal democracy, I've said this many times. Puntland waa inay iska jirta labo waxyaalood, 'tribal democracy' and 'political interest democracy' which is ruthless in hamar. both are bad.

You will see sometimes two parties running without any idealogical or policy difference in hamar, that is 'political interest politics' waa 'aan ku hukume becuz im 'power hungry' but i have no policy or idealogy.

Absolutely, this tribal democracy in SL is not good. To prevent tribalism infecting politics:
1. Make the leader of every single political party from the same extended family
2. Let the Parliament rather than the people elect the president

I demand Puntland parties to have a set of programs and also costing done on those programs against our budget n international aid, it should cover military n police security(internal, external), education and health outcomes, infrastructure, job creation, market reforms to create a rules based market to provide customer n investor confidence, food;water security policies, land restoration with trees, weapons control, registering puntites on central online database n linking that to their health, criminal justice record departments, how to expand taxes(puntlaand id cards, vehicle fines, birth n death certificates, etc)

I want to read each party specific programs, see the costs if it's realistic, and judge the party if can achieve those goals. Party politics is a competition between ideas, if all the ideas are the same, there is no competition and that is a 'weak brain dead society'

I agree with him. But it’s a tough thing to fix because Somalis are tribal in everyday life so will be hard to ever not let that affect your politics.

To avoid this multi party democracy where anyone can run for office as long as they are a citizen should be attempted.

It has to be Proportional Representation and encourage coalitions. No winner takes all. That way you will less likely to see constituency politics like in Kenya where only one tribe can win certain seats because they’re populous in the right places.

The U.K. or American system should never be used. Should be looking at Germany, New Zealand.

That's why Puntland parties need to appeal to 'deegaan' politics, My people live in birta dheer, we have our own challenges, if we see our village getting party attention for our needs, that will over-ride tribe. But I have yet to see any leader appeal to districts n villages interests.

That's what we had in our pilot elections. Deni's Kaah party was the single biggest winner but still lost qardho and ufeyn when the 2nd and 3rd party come together and formed a coalition gov. I think this way is better. You gotta win by at a certain margin to outright take the seat

@bidenkulaha it's actually more difficult to address cities like Bosaso which is diverse, if u build a road for one area, the other area will be pissed so u may lose their vote. Its even worse for hamar with HAGS. So places that r diverse cities, it can turn into a a trap of no development due to instability fears.

The good thing about Puntland, we all have our separate villages n districts which makes it's easy to develop faster which @Thegoodshepherd doesn't recognize due to the long distances theory. War hadi majerten hal meel laysku keeno, we will be like hamar fighting why does one side of the town gets this and that compared to another leading to a deadlock and no party touching it due to fears of instability.

My party strategy in Puntland will be to use the government registery of 'towns'. I will state if your 'degaan A' my policy for your towns is this and that and list all the 'degaan A'. If your deegaan B, this is my policy for your areas, If your deegaan 'C' this is my policy. So I can win over all these various voters becuz they are in the same 'category' and will have similar needs addressed.

District C is 'village' so they are concerned with basic social services(police, courts, school investsment, water, electricity), District B is different so is District A. District A needs job creation

@Thegoodshepherd that's why osman mahmoud r relocating to Qardho, no point sitting around with no development in Bosaso due to 'tribal isqabqabsi', cali saleban followed into 'carmo', and dashishe is now in 'waciye'. Being separate means less isqabqabsi and easier access and security for development.

When I say I want parties to 'cost' their programs. I mean like Deni did for the 3 G road.

All programs in Puntland must be costed and displayed to the ppl how these costs will be covered. Public/Private, Private only, International, a special donor nation, a 'mix of all or some'.

As puntites we are bit more mature then other regions in somalia where 'empty promises' or campaign slogans is enough for them.

Former corrupt leader of puntland Gaas spoke the truth for the first time in his entire public life. He mentioned that ictiraafstan has no political parties but clan structured parties which each clan owns a party. He further mentioned this is nothing to look upto and we should stay away taking that path.

he was speaking this in relation to the recent attempt by puntland organize political parties in the upcoming (s)elections to depose the yoganites while others want keep the status quo.

Indeed as much as i dislike the corrupt fella today he nailed it. Puntland should follow the ictiraafstan path.

Puntland blindly followed Somaliland by limiting the number of parties to 3. I thank God we don’t have a guurti.

I think we need an unlimited party system in which coalitions form through evolution. We will end up with a small handful of parties anyway. The parties that emerge from such a struggle will be more effective and better able to mobilize people. Take a look at elections in a state like Garissa if you want to see what that is like.

People will divide themselves into 3-5 parties naturally, don’t impose it from above.
