Puntland Education minister being grilled in Twitter spaces

Somali politicians don't prioritize education and the minister was complaining that they don't have financial resources for the education sector but that's not true, the reason is education is always an afterthought, Puntland started sales tax last year (around $1 million monthly) and they are building roads with that, they could do a similar thing for education, for example they could introduce mobile money tax as a lot of African countries did (1% is enough to make the education free) but they're known for their lack of discernment. I was expecting more from Deni as a former educator.

Exhibit A: wasiir Xasan Shire saying we're building roads why do people keep saying focus on developing human resources? (04:16 in the video)

Roads are visible. HDI isn’t and the benefits of education funding are long term which politicians with short term mindsets know will not benefit them

I'm pretty sure if it's one or the other people will prefer education to be free than roads because families spend a lot of their money on school fees.

This is a good step, the companies who printed the textbooks wanted $50 per student (for 11 books) but a lot of families complained that they can't afford this with the inflation and draught that's going on, so the president listened to them and the government will provide the textbooks for free.
