Not just that my friend but we need to use ancient water storage techniques and teach the villagers how to store water. If the aquifers are filled all year round and none of the water goes into the ocean, then the grass and shrub will survive all year round and reduced grazing and improving the soil will ensure the land remains green year round. The government should fence off an area of 0.5 sq km in many grazing areas to show herders what is possible with managed grazing. Almost all of Puntland is supposed to be tall grassland for about 6 months of the year.
This is Dharoor after 40 days of having stopped grazing.
I just want to live here. Allah swt has blessed us puntites.
Seen his ted talk he's brilliant. This is what's needed urgently. Not only will it regenerate the land, but it will provide sustainable livelihoods for the villagers and nomads. Remember, one goat costs $50 and one cow $200. The rural folk can get seriously wealthy out of this.
It's all about refilling the aquifers and planting more trees so we can recycle more of the rain water instead of having floods and water run into the seasonal river and then the ocean.

The north can be made green in the next 20yrs. It's only a matter of how soon we begin the reversal of years of neglect and damage due to over grazing.
