I know this is the first round of political party registrations so it will be high. But there isn't single website for them or video to find out what their political position is federally, locally, regionally. What their social programs are nor do we know the religious flavor of the parties such as their social policies towards societal morality as some have sufi, salafi, wahabi, modern muslims, quranists, etc.

Their economic platform is another one that isn't discussed in terms of their taxation philosophy, are they pro taxes and hurting business growth, or low taxes and encouraging business activity. Both have their pro's/con's philosophically. Higher taxes means better social services delivery if the government is efficient and quick which Puntland isn't. Low taxes is the best policy to take with Puntland as it takes years just to complete a road, so if you give the govt more money thru taxation, it will end up being wasted due to inefficiency, corruption, lack of procedures and processes to speed things up.

There is so many things missing to assess these parties politically if these are parties that stand on some ideological ground or if it's just some locals who want to get into office but have no political platform guiding them. I noticed in Somalia not many understand the ideas behind politics is philosophical

The other important area each party needs to discuss is

1. Security regionally with Galmudug/Somaliland needs to be addressed especially for the MAKHIR/SSC/Mudug areas. These areas need long lasting resolution not tit for tat nonsense for another 50 years.

2. Puntland different Local councils will need to align itself to whatever regional party contests in it's district that addresses it's local development, crime rate concerns, sanitation matter, land management, taxation rates preferences.

I know Bosaso for example will select the party with the lowest possible taxation policies because it's business heartland and businesses are not interested in too many rules or taxes.

Garowe/Galkacyo maybe different. Smaller towns will possibly vote for parties that are for high taxation rates as this will fall on Bosaso shoulders while smaller town benefit from redistribution.

3. We need foreign policy concerning 'development' areas not 'political' areas. Each party needs to find the balance between the federal constitution and puntland constitution. Foreign policy in federal government is only 'political' like acknowledging each other embassies as Somalia and whatever nation. The Federal govt also has 'military' jurisdiction, but this means 'external' military like with 'nations' not within the 'nation' which it is currently doing.

The other thing I noticed about parties they need to have some sort of 'character' or 'defining values' about it.

1 party maybe about minority issues, another about majority issues, another maybe about special interest groups be it religious or wealthy.

Their needs to be some character to each party. Puntland should look at basing some of it's parties on preserving or conserving it's traditions, cultures, language, and religion while another one looks to promoting new modern values like kismaayo was about pure capitalism 'kistada' or Bosaso is similar today.

This may mean they will need to name roads/airports/schools after traditional names, promote traditional attire in govt positions, at the same time each party has their their own economic, security, federal/state platform

Masha Allah.

I hope these guys aren’t lazy and set up sites and twitter/Facebook pages to share what their goals and aspirations are. I won’t commit to a party yet till I learn more about each one and then I’ll pick the one that interests me the most.

I have yet to see a true party in Somalia as a whole. They all promote the same thing as the other party running lol so what's the point of having parties if they are not different in ideas. Their is no underlying ideology guiding any of them besides winning offices thru bribes most of these parties you see in Somalia.

They want to 'appeal' to all Somalis like as if their some nationalist party lol. Maybe it's due to siyad barre revolutionary party most of these remember, but that is not multi party democracy. In multi party democracy you want to see different ideas in all parties, you want to see limited 'similarities' or else it may turn into one party state.

Yah I agree most of them have the same ideas. This is what I say Somali’s aren’t creative they tend to copy each other a lot smh.

Ditoore,
I bet you out of these 17 parties only few will be standing tall in a year. :russ:

Yeah no creativity is a problem, but it will lead to tribalism if they don't start demanding all parties form along ideological principles, if all parties share the same idealogy of nationalism, unity, Somalia first, PPuntland first, it will force people to vote along tribal lines as there is nothing different from 1 party idealogically to another party.

Heck they don't even have a philosophy around their taxation rate which is the largest policy area of all parties do you stand for workers(high taxes on businesses) or businesses(low taxes). There is no policy around Security regionally which is another large policy area how they going to handle GM/SL will it be thru 'force' or thru 'dialogue'. These parties never declare how their policy will address sanitation, crime rates, land management, conflict resolution rurally and urban.

We lack even institutions for land management, federal laws, state laws, local laws that address security, crime, land matters, these shouldn't even be 'political' they should be independent institutions with full vested powers just like our criminal and civilian courts have full vested powers, they don't need to consult president deni. The same needs to be identified in all areas that are critical to Puntland survival.

Airport-Roads-Ports should go under independent institutions so it doesn't turn political as their critical. I would say even water-electricity-currency management-food management as this is critical for life and shouldn't be political debates, they can be ministries but they should never be about 'debates' or 'parliament' discussion. They must be considered 'exempt' to political discourse and 1 regional shared policy manages it to ensure the survival of Puntland.
