Puntites come in; Decentralisation or Centralisation (Development)

I’m against any type of minimum wage

Federalism is the law of the land, it's not about politics. Unfortunately shariah law is also the law of the land which is a clause I want to remove from our politics and leave it 'neutral' so we can have parties that can allow puntites to decide which party they prefer secularist or islamist, capitalist or socialist? more military/police like right wing like or less military/police like left wing like.

I prefer more military/police because I believe security is paramount so I am not 100% liberal so I will swing to a right wing party. I am big supporter of PSF but if my socialist-liberal party doesn't stand for that then i will need to decide what is more important to me secularism-human rights-workers rights are far higher up on the ladder so I would bite my tongue and vote for them still.

Our puntland democracy better represent different beliefs and values of our people and not become like that shit-fest tribal nonsense in SL. Sorry @PuntiteQueen there will be no majerten-weyne if we go down to pure politics, people waxay isku racayan their beliefs, morals, and ideas then around the state.

@PuntiteQueen politics is confusin area but it covers the biggest matters important to people and the areas are usually

1. Security policies
2. Federal vs Central politics for example state rights or federal govt right
3. Economic policies workers vs business and economists who set which policy will grow the market the best. We are not united in this matter as puntites but most puntites wud swing to the left on this
4. Human rights vs Shariah, most puntites are swinging to the shariah guys, some center, few human rights first are more important then identity like me
5. Education-Health policies are also big matters depending where u from in PL it maybe the biggest priority in your area then other matters

Then it's matter of which party represents the most of the ideals u believe in, usually u won't get a party that represents everything u want so u need to prioritize what is important first. For example i would abadon a leftist party if it said more federal rights over state rights for shariah law strict federalist even tho i disagree with shariah law becauses im human rights advocate. Then I would assess education-health policies as my 'last priorities'. My priorities are 'federalism first' and then 'secularism defeating shariah law' is my second most important belief. Economic principles is my third most important area it's not my first area like a-lot of somalis could be concerned with this area the most first before others.

That's why we need parties in pl that reflect our populations political views not appeal to our tribal background, i won't vote for a majerten that is centralist, i will vote dhulbahante federalist any day, I won't vote for a warsangeli shariah law advocate over a dhulbahante human rights advocate. I wud vote for an IDP candidate if their economic policy if it meant I see worker rights over my own clan who is supporting a free market .

A good party will have politicians who know how to appeal to the concerns of each area of PL, they will be education health policy driven for 'rural areas' as that is the major priority there, where-as they swing urban areas on security because urban areas are more dangerous then rural areas so security maybe their biggest priority. Then it's about gouging who is federalist n centralist because we will split on this also I think in PL even though federalism is the law of the land but their are some who believe in mogadishu first idea. Then we will split on matters of which party stands for shariah law or human rights. Not all puntland share the same beliefs u know that? so that is the whole idea of parties to see who represents the majority but just because your a majority doesn't mean you can abuse the minority beliefs in PL, so I need my rights even if my views are in the minority.

I would even back a HG who is secularist-human rights advocate-minority rights protector over a majerten shariah islamist. Politics is confusing puntite queen, it's about what u believe in at the end of the day and then it's about what policies u like to see the society u want. I would back gemstate if he said 'workers rights is paramount to business rights' but then i may reject he is a centralist so I will have to work out do i want to lose federalism over my secularism and human rights views? hell no. Thats all politics, i would also finally 'gouge' the candidate and see if he has the brains and skills to get our idea thru the state. At this stage of Somalia we are not playing politics but identity politics, wallahi if they bring out these policies and form parties and present their platform, umaddu qabyalada way iska ilowbi lahayeen because i chose my politics over qabiil

@PuntiteQueen if u really want politics there will be no tribe in Somalia nor Puntland, but are u prepared for majerten-wayne to be agaisnt each other? because that is what will happen. A Secularist won't sit down with an Ali Haji Warsame just cause of tribe, he will sit with @GemState people if their secularist and join their party. A majerten won't sit down with a guy who is free market orientated like @Teeri-Alpha he may sit down with a dhulbahante and say I prefer your economic policy towards workers which maybe their most important priority in politics.

Some rural majerten dude may sit down with education-health first centralist in mogadishu like marehan candidate because he lives in rural area and wants this idea because its more important to him then say security because he doesn't need security out in rural areas. See how different sections of puntites rural-urban-diaspora will clash? there will no tribe anymore if it's purely down to politics, it's down to what is important to you and your area now.

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

I wouldn't advocate for Centralisation. Centralisation of power and economic might into one City can easily cause future rift between communities. I'm 100% certain that the locals in Bosaso will see their own MJ brethren investing in the city as outsiders stripping their lands from them in the future. And such dreadful negative thinking wouldn't be fair to other clans investing in the City.

I ain't denying that cities have become the world’s dominant demographic and economic clusters. But it is not population or territorial size that drives world-city status, but economic weight, proximity to zones of growth, political stability, and attractiveness for foreign capital. In other words, connectivity matters more than size. We should think of economic corridor of Bosaso-Qardho-Garowe-Galkaio. It would be a connected urban enclave spanning an area of 800KM. But we need an integrated infrastructure such as excellent roads, bridges to achieve smooth economic connection between the cities.

Cities that were once hundreds of kilometers apart have now effectively fused into massive urban archipelagos like Japan's Tokyo-Nagoya-Osaka OR Brazil's Greater Sao Paolo OR China's river Delta etc.

I'm not sure if our politicians understand the intrinsic value of connectivity for the unprecedented economic growth of the region.

I support the decentralization of Puntland. It leads to more equality, lower scale corruption, and more peace. The Garacad port project is a beautiful example of this and we will continue this philosophy with Eyl port afterwards. I hope to see a Puntland where every Puntite has access to the best services and infrastructure regardless of where they live.

I live in a heavily decentralized country so I have seen the benefits firsthand. In Canada, less productive provinces like the Atlantic ones cannot afford the same standard of living as the rest of the country, so the Canadian government gives them extra money to catch up: these are known as equalization transfers. Some provinces are net receivers while others are net contributors. The end result is that you have relatively equal level of services and development wherever you go in Canada. I would like to see this in Puntland one day.

Population demand doesn't create economy, that's nonsense. It's the population purchasing power that creates demand for business. What we should aim for is ensuring 1 puntite to have more puchashing power then the average southie, that's when businesses will rush in. Right now there dealing with a market place of people that live on $1-5 dollars a day, where we need to increase that to $100 a day. We need workers law in PL and begin setting minimum wage and other mechanism to control what the market pays it's workers so it can lead to workers purchasing power increasing not leave it too market to decide which is crazy when u r not a developed market.

The ways to do this is to ensure salaries are paid weekly so they spend weekly, in australia they pay salaries fortnightly to ensure money is being spent quickly so businesses can hire workers regularly, if they paid monthly, it would mean people only spend one time a month and other weeks is slow meaning they will lay off workers.

If PL regulated it's market it would lead to huge increases in wealth rather then allowing it to naturally regulate itself like it has been, which has shown the market will not change it's productivity rate. I suggest strict measures put into place for businesses to pay a minimum wage for workers, there is no point one big business takes large profit but doesn't share it around with his workers because one business man cannot generate market growth, he needs to increase his worker wages so they can create more demand.

In a perfect ideal puntland your thinking would be perfect! However the truth of the matter is we're just not there yet, in fact i dont think theres any african country at that level! Lets try to be realistic and work with what we have.

You suggest workers law in PL and setting minimum wage? Great inititaive but there are no industries and scarcity of even the most basic jobs let alone policies and regulation.

We dont have the government with that type of thinking or even capability, perhaps in 20 years with the right improvements and changes now. Does the current government have the power to regulate the market, will people listen knowing the corruption and hoarding of aid money just look at the mismanagement of bosaso port?

So let's face it no where in the horn has that political maturity yet! So there's no point dreaming of how things can or should be! When the answer is simply they arent.

So let's work with what we have a poor country, a weak government, a lack of infrastructure, therefore by creating a hub your keeping the economy in one place. The right investors diaspora or otherwise will be attracted. It will create an urban centre where people from across the horn can move to as far as ogaden.

There will be a healthy competition, with more businesses opening up there will be creation of jobs and demand for skillfull work force, small industries will pop up!
Think of Lagos in nigeria.

Are we comparing puntland to Canada! Countries follow models of other countries with similar, size, economy, industry, etc. What works in sweden cant work in russia. So its great in theory but let's focus on what we can do! and creating a hub will be beneficial for future growth and attracting investment.
