Back in 2016 during the US elections, Russians were posting content in social media that emphasized on how the Democrats used AAs for their own agenda while they never do anything tangible for AAs. They did these campaigns behind burner accounts whose photos were presented to be AAs.

They also focused on white working class in the Midwest, USA. They emphasized on how the mainstream politicians such as Clinton and Bush families promised them jobs and affordable healthcare but never deliver those promises. Their ads were encouraging them to either vote for non-mainstream politicians who are outside of the loop or don't vote at all.

They have 100s of 1000s of bot accounts that were clicking and retweeting the contents of those ads. What was the end result: 12 million people who voted for Barrack Obama didn't vote for Hillary Clinton on November 8, 2016. They virtually delivered the election to Donald Trump.

Another area they promote: The rise of the far-right in the West.

And the goal of the Russians is to pit groups in the West against each other - the same thing Western mouthpieces and front groups do in Russia and other countries. Bottom line, don't be surprised if the Russians were the ones took down that gay content while diverting attention from themselves. Their goal is to cause confusion in societies in the West.
