Somaliland to be quite honest is in a huge dilemma which has roots all the way back to it's violent founding and civil war. Even their assembly in Borame was done thru 'violence' following MAO Zedong philosophy 'guns settle politics'. This early founding principle is still seen how they believe politics is achieved thru 'guns' up untill today. What they don't know but will find out later is their state will fall to violence and guns because they made it an 'acceptable' way of achieving politics. Plus the outlook for those type of state judging by other founded in similar methods is horrible.
But let's get down to some nitty/gritty problems with this region. They declared a one way secession arguing to respect their borders(umm dummy u just didn't respect somalia borders and your asking for the same). They pursued colonial borders when the issue in Somalia isn't south vs north or colonial identities but clan and power. So even their colonial border solution provides no real benefit to on-ground dynamics. The internal unity of Isaaq is held thru the point of guns.
They had a civil war internally and the winner egal resorted to isolating Garhajis clan from power since 96. This alone is a big crack in their social stability future outlook. All their presidents use the office on external distraction(PL, SSC, Mogadishu) to keep this crack from exposing itself and bringing SL down. Their simply on borrowed time and trying to hold a house together that was brought together by violence, this is a very hard feat to achieve. Every president extends their term by 2 years and will always look for ways to stay in power by using 'external distraction' method. This external distraction method is always utilized by nations with violent beginnings and social divisions in order to keep their house together.
So what's the solution? the solution is SL needs to adopt the following policy
1. Retreat and stay in Isaaq territories so the world and somalis see your not 'adding' more fuel to the fire in Somalia, which was clan n power.
2. Convene SL elites that PL/SSC have done a massive 'dharbaaxo siyasadeed' by showing the world your clan tyrant state and using violence against it's so-called people. PL being much wiser pulled out in 2007 on the grounds it won't harm it's citizen showing the world, it's their people.
3. Scrap this colonial border nonsense which is only used for distracting Isaaq from it's own volatile clan situation.
4. Declare your seeking an independence thru legal means by respecting Somalia border in the hope when negiotations are done they respect your Isaaq borders and aspirations. This keeps your locals satisfied(local habar awals i mean). This accepts clan realities n different aspirations of other clans also so ur not seen as a fool demanding something u yourself do not allow others to have.
5. Become a positive force in Somalia and develop your state credibility locally and use that to further cement your aspirations not run around being negative force with shabab as PL n Somalia can and will argue you won't be positive force if independent based on your current performance.
