Practice of Binding in ancient cultures (craniosynostosis)

Some ancient civilizations valued certain cultures and maintained their practice although they were detrimental to their own lives. This practice in particular i found to be strange as it had no benefit that i know of. Yet the incas and the ancient egyptians were among the ancient civilizations that held this practice and maintained it for some time. They would bind the child's head at birth and elongate the skull.

This is why some pharaoh remains and incas priests bodies had elongated and deformed skulls. Mainly the royals would undergo this ancient method of plastic surgery to symbolize their status in society.

Who knows akhi. Maybe it was spiritual or religious, but only the nobles had this done to them so it was a status symbol too.

It's not healthy. I've yet to see a benefit to this, as it can lead to brain damage and other complications for the child.

Some yoroba tribes still practice this in africa.
