Yup, Every text mentions that they lived dirty little huts. The emperor lived in a two story hut. This from Pedro Paez’s História da Ethiópia which was written in 1620. Paez was a prominent Jesuit who converted Susenyos to Catholicism and was a key advisor.

I cringe whenever ajnabis or Ethiopians claim they had a more advanced civilization than is. Maybe in terms of art and military strength they were but when most of the population and your elites were living in villages and huts then you can't claim to be better
