Did Al-Shabaab just disappear from Somalia or something? What makes you think MJ & HG are the root of Somalia's instability? MJ have Puntland and Habar Gidir are in the process of state building, yet Somalia is still as messed up as ever.

Even if Al Shabaab was to miraculously vanish overnight do you honestly think everything will be hagaag? Besides, the statebuilding is not going as planned for either party. Puntland has been around for 17 years. It's a fully functioning state. The Habar Gidir have had several different states since 2006/7, but now they're trying to organize into one political unit. Both MJ and HG are focused on their traditional homelands. Blaming either clan for the instability in Somalia is a cop-out and you know it.

Highly unlikely. One clan has to man up for the greater good, but both are stubborn.

HG are trying to swallow all of Mudug and PL isn't having it, the beef will only get worse.

You can't compare the two. The only state in Somalia HG have a majority is Galgadud. The MJ in Nugaal alone are more than all the HG in Galgadud. Same goes for the MJ in Mudug and the HG. This is all without counting Bari. People think that the numbers are close, but looking at the most recent census it is not really.

There is no actual political competition between the two, HG will not become PM or President anytime in the near future. Abgaal stands in the way of the presidency, and if an MJ become president a HG will never be appointed. The clan that is actually in a struggle with HG is Abgaal wo are hogging all the power of the Hawiye to themselves.
