Political History of NFD

A thesis on the political history of the NFD Somalis written by a Somali academic from that region. The thesis gives an insightful look into the history of the often neglected region (economically by Kenya and historically by Somalis), the political structure before the arrival of the British, the colonial period, and the independence struggle thereafter. The thesis endsby examining how the Kenyatta administration suppressed the NFD independence struggle and the brutal policies employed. It also touches upon how the leaders of the movement were forced to give up their struggle after Somalia withdrew her support.

Most people don't know a thing or two about the NFD, so it's very rare to come across such an invaluable historical source.

One interesting fact I learnt was that when the Somalis conquered Jubbaland/NFD/Waamo, they were reconquering it after the Galla had taken it from them in the 1600s/1700s.

one informant noted in 1996 that the Ogaden had by the mid-1870s reached the river Sabaki/Galana near Lamu on the coast, having forced the retreating Wardei to cross the river. While there, they marked tribal symbols on trees and deliberated on whether to settle or not. They finally decided not to settle around the Sabaki River because of tsetse fly which the Somali pastoralists feared would decimate their livestock and people.

After killing and pillaging all their way to Lamu, they decided to pull back because of the Tsetse fly. After doing dhaanto over the Wardei :damn:

I read this a while back it was interesting to see how easy and common it was for people to become sheegats to a clan. Also the maps were super interesting to read

They reached as far as Mwingi near central Kenya but the British forced them back.
The system has always been against Somalis. Currently when Cawliyahan and Boranas fight, the wildlife services aid Boranas with weapons and vehicles. The system has always been against us

And today people are claiming Wardey as Dir.
Most of Wardey were Gaalo/Ormo not Muslim.
Those langaab Dir will claim anybody to challenge Darood.
Now they said all Ormo are Dir including the Ormo fighting with Geri called Jarso, who doesn’t speak Somali and Jarso are 100% Ormo.
Next you will hear Kukuyo and LUO are Dir.
Desperate langaab.
