It seems like under Article 16 of the 1975 Family Law, the age of marriage was already set to 18 and 16 with parental consent during the Siad Barre Administration. Does this law still stand today? https://www.refworld.org/legal/legislation/natlegbod/1975/en/150004

I know but legally speaking, the law exists just isnt being enforced right?

Yes but that law was from half a century ago. Somalia at that time was radically different

. They’ve just assumed our age of marriage was like 13+ for awhile now because of how lawless Somalia has been for the past 30 years.The thing I want to reiterate is that unfortunately, human societies tend to devalue groups that are poverty stricken and disorganized. It’s one of the most dehumanizing aspect of man’s cruelty. Think back to the Irish, colonized, hungry and brutalized and for hundreds of years, their English and American brethren whom they share genetic and somewhat cultural closeness too denied their whiteness despite being pale, mostly colored eyes and hair. That is the human condition.
I can’t think of any group who are known to be poor that have a good rep. Poverty is a stamp of degradation and I think that anything and everything will be thrown at us and they’ll hope it will stick because ultimately, the issue is this: How dare you be black, African and poor. The lowest in the totem pole. The Chinese went through a similar experience half a century ago, they called their experience, the century of humiliation, but Somalis it seems are ok with constant stream of mortification, from a weak gov with citizens that are ambivalent, to people with low morale who are ok with the injustice the weak amongst us face to many of us who are educated but are not going back and trying to make radical changes since deep down many do see Somalia as a write off, no matter how much they hide behind fake indignation. Many on this forum are vigilant about any embarrassments online ranting about self hatred and ajnabis, but lo and behold, whilst our poverty continues, so will our humiliation. You’ll be ranting for decades to come if our condition doesn’t change, hence why I find these conversations positively futile.

There is laws in Somalia, people's marriages are documented, even in the pre-colonial times people documented it in the towns. Even peoples homes are documented and registered. It's not a lawless free for all. People follow organization, rules and norms.
Under age marriages are largely concentrated in extremely poor rural areas and displacement camps , out of sheer desperation to escape poverty that that a family member arrange this sometimes without consent of other family members or the knowlege of the government , it’s not the general reality for most girls in Somalia. Even in the poorer rural areas or camps the state often intervenes and nullifies it once they are made aware of it.
Most women in Somalia are not married before the age of 18. In 2020 it was down to 35% by a UN study. , meaning 65% where married after the age of 18. If they pass the law it would only be reflecting this reality.
This doesn't really matter for most of these loud Christian Africans because they view it to confirm their own prejudiced beliefs about Islam. They don't focus on their own backyard to correct this issue and are to busy trying PR manage it and project it outward.
Somalis are actually tackling this head on and have no problem rallying against it and if eradicating this brings more brief exposure to it then that's worth it.

The constitution legit says 18 and 16 with guardian approval. Where are yall getting 15?
