Listen me and Angelina not trying to argue we are just trying to say social media is just the surface of the problem when it comes to Somalia’s issue, if it weren’t for social media it would have been the news

A countries ā€œreputationā€ is merely a reflection of its internal politics and its relations with other countries which Somalia doesn’t have much good going on for either of those, what people say on TikTok is just a reflection of what’s going on in the country it’s very unfortunate but just the way it is but if we try to change and improve the country or maybe highlight the improvements happening (which you would have to spam TikTok to showcase that) is the only way to go about things

@Gracias can u hear us out or you just gonna start an argument why can’t we just discuss this rationally without getting heating and trashing one another tf
The country is improving everyday and people do showcase this online. Their comments are spammed by weird and obsessed ajnabis who hate seeing us prosper. They’re the same people pretending to care about women’s rights in Somalia rn. I don’t think you understand my point at all. Like child marriage is high throughout africa and that’s disgusting. Somalia literally passed a law to ban it (something many african countries haven’t done) and we’re getting dragged because a few psychos are against it. Like do you understand this…even tho people have passed a law to stop child marriage we’re still being dragged

You don’t seem to understand my point and
It shows, so I’ll give you an example that should bring you down to earth:

The only countries that are able to combat that are the wealthy ones that have imported their image which combats most of the negativity. Look at South Korea. Anyone that is interested in news and their society knows that misogyny, r-word and female rights is a huge issue there. Their women often talk about it even doing vice and BBC documentaries, but is that something we soley associated with South Korea? No and ask yourself why? Because gov and society has pumped in billions if not trillions to package and showcase their culture in a certain light.

Every singe society has their dirt online now. You can’t escape this. This is the downside of globalization and mass social media and the internet. Every single group has something out there but it will always be worse for SSA simply because they don’t have a gov to showcase an alternative
Walaal there is a serious issue with the somali diasporas online behaviour, this is what the conversation is about. There is a big ethiopian diaspora, they dont go out of their way to churn out videos about every social or political issue they have. Same with the nigerians, same with every other group in the english speaking world. Half of the disrespectful dehumanizing rhetoric I see about somalis is based on information somali people themselves spread online to a non-somali audience.

If anything my posts about India just prove my point and Angelina’s that a country’s ā€œreputationā€ is a reflection of what’s going on with the country and the culture…

if Indians had a non disruptive culture I’d have no complaints….. and the same goes for people trash talking somalia…. if Somalia didn’t have its problems there would be nothing for them to share to drag Somalia’s reputation down :Peaches:

lol you’re delusional. Nigeria and Ethiopia have a bad rep in the world and they’re no different to Somalis and how they’re viewed.

Ethiopia literally has a higher percentage of child marriage than somalia but they’re in the comments dragging us while ajnabis praise them like can you be serious for a min

Problem is that men like that old somali man that went viral crying his eyes out that child marriage was banned.. we should off niggas like him if we are concerned with ā€œreputationā€ …

they’re the root of the problem until all the dumbass mfs like him die off or change their ways we are stuck and held back as a people that mf PROUDLY recorded himself crying over it jfcccc

Most of these Somali social
Media folks only want attention. If they care why not speak Somali so that the issue can be resolved ? But they’re all centering themselves with posts like this to gain viewers they don’t care and will. BLock you if you challenge them. Ethiopian ka luqadooda ku hadlan anaga maxa sas noo dideeday? Anyone can google us and then frame us with the worst narratives we are like anyone else we have good and bad in our country in reality these things are rare occurrences that happens to poor families it happens most of the world. Most of the girls back home in my family are going to school some of them are doctors. Somalis who use social media need to stop branding us negatively the only time I encounter horror stories is when I log into online or YouTube some social media Somali person is trying to put our name in the dirt when in reality my family and friends aren’t going through those things nor are my Somali neighbors or in our mosques. Some of these social media folks need to actually stop isolating themselves and get to know Somalis we are just like anyone else in this world.

Why are we stuck and held back because a small minority are weird? Does that make sense to you? Why are Somalis being punished because one freak posted a video? Why do diaspora Somalis have to deal with racism and hateful comments because a random man posted a video? Like do you hear yourself? You would never post that X minority group deserve racist commentary because one of them fucked up but you think it’s okay that all of us have to get dragged because of a few losers?

Nigeria yes ethiopia no they are viewed way more neutral even positively in some aspects purely bc of Addis abba. I'm not even joking I saw one make a video setting us up for hate about this and ethiopians along with white people were going on about us in the comments like they aren't just as bad if not worse

Half of the things they are trying to pass of as normal somali experiences are things I’ve never heard of irl.

….. we’re just going in circles rn… you started this convo with me I’m ending it. all I said was I agreed with Angelina. she wrote my views perfectly.

go respond to her cuz I don’t have the energy to just keep repeating myself over and over and over again. thanks šŸ™šŸ¾ šŸ¤²šŸ¾

and I’m not trying to be sassy or rude or trying to blow you off. I would like to have an honest conversation about this but yall making it hard and I’m tired bye

Exactly they’re pandering to English audiences and watch how they center themselves by walking around or looking in the mirror or something. It’s sickening. If they want to change something then speak Somali so that it can reach the target audiences otherwise your full it!

You are speaking so clear and eloquently and people still not getting it omfg

the same goes for Japan which is actually an even more wild example if you take a look at their history and how RUTHLESS they were especially to their neighbours (korea with the ā€˜comfort women’ scandal, nanjing massacre in China, pearl harbour) etc etc the Japanese hate was SO BAD in the goddamn 80S they beat a Chinese man to death in the USA because they assumed he was japanese

Against the backdrop of high anti-Japanese sentiment in the United States at the time – known as "Japan bashing" – Ebens and Nitz assumed Chin was Japanese, and a witness described them using anti-Asian racial slurs as they attacked him, ultimately beating Chin to death.[5][6]

they managed to ā€œfix their reputationā€ with BILLIONS invested in soft power and Exported worldwide through anime, music, clothes, food, tourism and gaming (Nintendo)

so yes Somalia’s reputation can be changed but it’s gonna take a lot more work than trying to control what’s posted on tiktok through word of mouth :snoop: I can’t believe this even has to be explained

All 3 of these threads are rooted on negativity, 2 are crying about "what would foreigners think" you know for a community that's so insecure about its public reception, you sure love broadcasting the skeletons to the world and talking about them
