baraawe is beautiful. One of the only somalis cities which still has old city buildings
I low-key think the old buildings look better then these new ones. The style is perfect for a beach city.
Hopefully in future they keep these style of houses instead of the new ones.

The town declined as the ports of Merka and Mogadishu became more important as they were more suitable for the larger vessels during the early 1900s.
By 1950 most of Barawa 's older houses, close to the shore, had fallen into disrepair and many of them had been vacated by the Tunni and Hatimi/Bidha/Barawani families that owned them.
From what i read from the team that surveyed them in 1938 it also seems that some of the older buildings were built on top of foundations of older ones, during the construction boom in the 1800s And that the locals have a tradition that a part of the city is submerged under water.
