Persecution of Muslims...

....in BURMA

The Rohingya Muslim are amongst the most persecuted minority group in the world. According to Amnesty International, the Rohingya Muslim people have continued to suffer from human rights violations under the Burmese junta since 1978, and many have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh as a result. However, the reality is that the Rohingya people have been oppressed for many years prior to 1978, though arguably not as significant. They have lived in Myanmar for centuries but tensions with Myanmar's Buddhist majority have caused discrimination and harassment. Cases of rape, torture, arbitrary detention, and violence against Rohingya are commonplace, with many incidents going unreported as enforcement officers turn a blind eye.

Anyone know much about this:wtf:?

It's terrible. This is the very definition of persecution. Government forces are literally attacking their villages, killing men, raping women and burning down their houses so they can't return.

Thats crazy, I rarely hear about this on this forum or this news but will read more about it

DuctTape

I have an IQ of 300
The fact that the persecution is so severe yet it is barely talked about or discussed is such a tragedy, honestly.
These poor people are the textbook examples of a downtrodden, oppressed group, yet other ethnic groups/peoples that are doing much better on average than the Rohingya muslims receive the bulk of donations and humanitarian aid.
"The 2016–17 Rohingya persecution in Myanmar refers to the ongoing military crackdown by Myanmar's armed forces and police on Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State in the country's northwestern region. The crackdown was in response to alleged attacks on border police camps by unidentified insurgents and has resulted in wide-scale human rights violations at the hands of security forces, including (but not limited to) extrajudicial killings, gang rapes, arson and infanticides."
La xawla. Even babies are being killed.
Burma needs help.

Yeah, it's important to note this is the military doing this. Not some random militia. The amount of stuff that goes on and some of the stuff that comes out of there is genuinely shocking. It is one of the most underreported conflicts in the world

So the civilians are okay with each other? Or is there violence between them too, even though the Muslim ones have their own area

Meanwhile tragedies in Europe are mourned worldwide :kodaksmiley: We all know why though...

It's sad but people don't care about Africa or south east Asia. We should help or brothers and sisters in Myanmar. I thought the new progressive government would do something, but they don't even recognise the Rohingya as Burmese, but as Bangladeshi migrants. Malaysia is doing it's best to help, all we can do is help in charity. We should also learn from this and see that there Myanmar government's decision is not the way to go. We should recognise the Isaaq genocide and seek s new peace agreement on unity and prosperity.

Yes and no. The Rhohingya people are an ethnic group. They're overwhelmingly Muslim, but their persecution is also motivated ethnically. There are a minority of non-Rohingyan Muslims as well as Christians. They're slightly better off but they're still somewhat second class citizens in the sense that they're barred from joining the military for example, and can't hold government positions and face social persecution. They clash with the Buddhists civilians (who make up 90%), but these are still far better off than the Rohingyans. The Rohingyans are registered as non-citizens so they can't travel, they also can't have more than 2 (i think) children in order to control their population. They have no legal rights, they can't even do basic things like own property or obtain documents through normal procedures. The population seems largely indifferent or in support of their military.

People don't care about Muslims, period. If the tables were turned and a group of Muslims were murdering Myanmar Buddhists you best believe it would be on international news, and they would be offered asylum by other countries--like how governments were more eager to offer Christian and Yazidi Syrians refuge over Muslim Syrians (who were being killed at a higher rate). But since the victims are Muslim, nobody cares enough to even report on it. Did you know that the same thing is happening to Muslims in the Central African Republic, except by Christians? Neither did I until recently.

I was watching a documentary about this conflict on youtube not too long ago and the comments were filled with people saying these innocent people deserved this because they were Muslims and that the Buddhists "were doing the right thing"--and that was just ordinary people, imagine how governments would react. Muslims should stop fighting over petty things already and help one other, because no one else is on our side. There's even a hadith about this.

May Allah help these people.
