Whenever I see one I get so sad. Like my heart crumbles wallahi bilahi. I try not to stare at them but also try to treat them normal. These are moments I thank Allah swt the most for my health and what I have . Always stay humble guys. I just tear up from seeing them, they will never experience life like others do. but in akhira they will be blessed. inshallah

But I was reading Islamqa and apparantly it's allowed to abort in certain cases.

If it is proven in a definitive fashion, beyond any doubt, by a trustworthy medical committee, that the foetus is deformed, and that this deformity cannot be treated by the specialists, then in my view it is permissible to abort it, in view of the difficulties it would face in life and the hardship this would present to the parents, and the burdens and responsibilities of care it would place on the society. These considerations and others prompted the Islamic Fiqh Committee of the Muslim World League in its 12th conference held in Makkah on 15 Rajab 1410 AH (10/2/1990 CE), to issue the statement that “it is permissible to abort a foetus which is deformed in the manner mentioned above, with the consent of the parents and within the first 120 days from the beginning of the pregnancy.”

The decision of the committee was in accordance with the fatwa of the Standing Committee for Academic Research and Issuing Fatwas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, no. 2484, issued on 16/7/1399 AH.

So apparently it is allowed to abort under certain circumstances. Would you abort if you knew your future child would be disabled?

Also for the med students around us when can you tell if a foetus has disabilities ?

I would abort, personally. Seen too much of it from doing a short term job with disabled kids. I think it’s wise to, if you’re aware.

But obviously there’s tons of conditions we have no control over at this time, and people present later in life, like as toddlers with severe autism, or even genetic diseases that present in young adulthood. It’s really an amazing thing if you’re fully healthy.

Those toddler-childhood diseases/cancers are heartbreaking. I think it’s heartbreaking when you think your baby is healthy, and suddenly they can’t talk, become developmentally behind due to some disability, or are stricken with cancer or something. That’s so cruel.

I’m sure it’ll become commonplace to screen your partners for illnesses and risk factors for conditions in the not too distant future to see if you’re ok with the outcomes. Seems cold, in some ways.
