Somalis are court jesters does anyone respect a joker?
sheekadan comes from somalis struggling to adapt to free and open societies that lack corruption. you wont hear somalis in sheeko loo baahnayn in places like jordan saudi sudan etc. we thrive under gacan bir or nin kale calankiisa. if you go to carabaha some of them will say i like somalida waa dad ahlul quraan ah. they wont say we like somalida for being court jesters.

In the coffebreaks we sit around table and just shoot the shit. So ofcourse theres more wiggle room for weird/funny conversations.

But theres a tendency where theres always one who drags it. Find out who that person is and have a game face around him. Dont laugh or play into his/hers sarcastic personality. keep it strictly collegial/professional around him/her. I sniffed this specific collegue within 2 seconds, and I never laugh or entertain his jokes, even if they happen to be funny. If you dont react positively, he will imedeatly sense it and back off/respect you.

So in verbatim this is how it went: «Somalia, eh?»

me: 🤨?

Peep how I didnt even smile or acted exciting, I just hit him with the huh?

Now whatever he intented to really say took a turn and he just followed with «Good theres no war here in this country! We all have it great here»

me: «yeah»

Keep it always short and brief with these types, and act happy and be your self with the ones you trust 100% and are proven friends.

In another instance he mentioned how a mayor in UK wanted to impose shariah. We all know its BS and they just wanna legitimate theyr racism. So what did I do ? Never agree, laugh or engange in any of theyr takes. The shariah thing he wanted a reaction but didnt get any, and he ended looking like the stupid unfunny guy at work who talks politcs.

This is how I dealt with this specific situation, but theres other scenario. I hope this helped👍

This was a boss btw. After that he always respected me

I learned it by trial and error. I got blindsided when I was a greenhorn and acted like my true self from the get go. I was curious, excited, enganged in fun conversations with the wrong people. You have to read them and figure them out quick, and they always leave signs here and there you can pick up. If you were laughing and being jolly around a racist without knowing, you can risk in the next situation to potentially look like boo-boo the fool. You dont want that to ever happen. Try to keep poltics to an absolute minimum, or even threathen them with the 3 letter department, in our case HSE or HR or even the union.

Funny thing is Ive went that route, I’m single but the other guy I reported have a wife and kids. He was on the brink to lose it all, and you set that type of heavy presedence you will be untouchable🙌

They think you are arrogant, good, I like that walaal. Heck, let em for everythings it’s worth! They don’t know, but you’re doing that to protect yourself from unsolicited drama, backbiting and any type of fuckery. If you are in corp I’ts literally corporate cringe.

Always act serious around the overly sarcastic/suspicious person, never give them any type of positive validation. The rest who are normal I always banter and chill with. Listen to your intuition.

It has reached the point where im so comfortabel in my field of work that on special occasions, when its needed, I take the piss on whoever cross my line by meanmugging them discreetly when they pass by in the hallway/any tight corridor. For context I work on the rigs as a contractor, so I fly out to different installations. It’s fun having control and knowing how to call a bluff, with age comes wisdom they say.

I agree majority of the people who say naya or warya in public towards random somalis are boys with somali friends in the UK. It's actually gotten so annoying nearly all my somali female friends have gone through this they are way too comfortable with us
Why don’t they check them out, calling someone warya or naya is informal

Reer Uk want to be danyeers to fit in. They don’t know the difference between who’s learning about their culture due to respect and genuine love or to mock and jeer at it.

It’s weird in canada Somali slang is kinda intertwined with toronto culture but you don’t see this wierd entitlement other communities have over us.

yeha but these shisheeye ain’t going around screaming naaya to our sisters and telling niggas abaha hooyada waas first link

that’s the difference and why we’re having this discussion in the first place.

I agree tho most agjnabis have this weird entitlement towards somalis that need to be addressed

I've been in scuffles here in London, mostly with Ajnabis. One time, it was late at night and my girl said she was going to a shop to buy a fizzy drink, but I didn't see which shop she went into, so I started to look for her. Out of nowhere, this drunk Cadaan guy and an Asian guy stopped me and started saying gibberish things. I ignored them and moved on and out of nowhere they started throwing punches at me. I got back up quick and started punching, kicking and sabaxading both of them to the point I picked some bottle on the side of the road and smashed it on the Asian guys head (true story walahi).
About 7 Somali guys started running up to us and started recording. Eventually after 5 minutes Police arrived and they arrested all three of us. Only a black girl in the crowd defended me asking the police why they are arresting me. Police gave me a NFA though so I was good
