Actually most maasais are just cushitic people who adopted nilotic custom. So the language they speak now aren't theirs. It was only few centuries ago they became nilotized. Read about sirikwa people (south cushitic). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirikwa_people

I have noticed that quite alot too. Especially when they are wearing religous clothing. Rendilles are
undoubtedly closest to us in looks. They were afterall somalis who went their own way.
