On this day 40 years ago, The Somali National Movement (SNM) was born and announced, It had a political and a military wing. Soon loads of military commanders of the Ishaaq tribe would desert the army to join the armed wing of the SNM, which fought all over the north.


The creation of this armed front, based in the Somali region in Ethiopia was a turning point for the Somali Democratic Republic under a dictatorial rule. The SNM soon proved to be the most powerful of all the armed resistance groups,

The SNM is arguably one of the most successful military organizations in Africa's history. No other group even comes close. May Allah Bless the mujaahids and their successful attempt on restoring Islam in the north and the independence of the Republic of Somaliland, Long live the SNM and beesha sheikh ishaaq
