This theory was promoted by Lewis and other historians in his correspondence, but it has been thoroughly investigated and rejected by modern sources with modern archaeological findings.

According to the Cambridge History of Africa who have one of the biggest historic documents in Africa investigated these claims and here is what they stated:
The traditional view that the Galla preceded the Somali in the Horn is no longer valid. It is rather the Somali who are referred to in the accounts of early Arab geographers. In fact, there was a basic continuity in the use of the term Berber since the first century of the Christian era to describe the land and the people of the Horn. The Periplus, Claudius Ptolemy, and Cosmas Indicopleustes employed it in much the same way as the Arab geographers did after the ninth century. There seems to be no doubt that the Arab geographers had particularly the Somali in mind when they spoke of the 'Black Berbers' of the Horn; and the earlier use of the term by Greek writers may very well indicate a more ancient occupancy of the Horn by the same stock of people.

These are the same historians who claimed Arab and Persian families founded the urban centers on the Benadir coast but it's widely accepted now that there were pre-existing African urban communities on the Somali coast with local African leadership that gave permission to these families to settle. More importantly, it contradicts oral, ancient written sources and archeological evidence on the pre-existing civilizations and communities that flourished on the Somali coast, and to which were the forefathers of Mogadishu and other coastal cities.

Another quote from the Cambridge History of Africa:
The contacts between the Near and the Middle East on the one hand, and the African side of the Gulf of Aden on the other, were very old and regular; and the earliest advent of Islam in these regions must have certainly occurred within the first century of the Muslim era. The inhabitants of the Horn at that time seem to have been the ancestors of the present-day Somali. Their most important coastal settlements were Zeila and Berbera on the Gulf of Aden, and Mogadishu, Merca and Brava on the Benadir coast. Each of these settlements apparently owed its growth and development to regular stream of merchants from Arabia, and from the countries around the Persian Gulf, who visited these places and who later started to live in them. - Page 135

false. we ruled them for about 100 years, look up the yejju oromo dynasty.
also, oromo were as divided as somalis, so some were leaders of the conquerors, others were conquered.
During the 17th century, the Yejju dynasty (more specifically, the Warasek) ruled much of the Ethiopian Empire during the Zemene Mesafint or "Era of Princes", changing the language in the court of Gondar to Oromo language.[2]
omoros really did to amharas what the normans did to the anglos:farmajoyaab:

This is the history of Oromos. I don't know anything pre-16th century but there may have been a flourishing culture in their historical territories and need more archaeological findings but let's stick to their well documented period.

Oromos were historically nomads and lived around southern Ethiopia (Borana) and northern Kenya (Marsabit) according to Leonardo Cohen and used to be way smaller than Somalis but what happened was they expanded towards Lake Abaya and Bale. They came in contact with Somalis and Oromos would trade their cattle just to get Somali horses which made their raiding capability extremely dangerous and they conquered many regions in Ethiopia and absorbed many people which is the reason why they're very huge today.

Zeila brought Islam to the Oromo people and after the Oromos completed their conquest they established a number of independent kingdoms. Among these were the Gibe region kingdoms of Kaffa, Gera, Gomma, Garo, Gumma, Jimma, Leeqa-Nekemte, and Limmu-Ennarea. The most powerful was the Yejju dynasty where they began ruling the Abyssinians for centuries.

If you create Oromia, and elect a muslim leader than i will consider you as a cushit ally. But as long as you're part of Ethiopia we have to be vigilant against ya'll 💯
